In theory between us my partner and I have 11 cars. Five of them could be used if taxed and MOT'd at the moment but cost wise that won't happen. There is a mix of old, new standard and modified. I have read about traders type insurance, is there any one type of policy around that could be used to cover all of them as even having projects insured seems a wise move now ?

Footman James do a "collectors policy" rather than a traders one, I don't know if it has any age limits for the car though.

The problem with trade insurance now is a lot of companies are asking for proof of trading to stop people using it for this kind of thing or a cheap way of driving high performance cars.
I do think there is a gap in the market for people like us that just like to drive a lot of different cars but not out to make a profit from it.

Typically I'm already with Footman James and although asking if there were any better ways of insuring our cars they didn't mention this. I will try to find out more. As you say age of the cars is a problem. None of our cars are worth a lot, most are too new to be able to have them on a classic policy and it's just too expensive insuring them separately. We can only drive two at a time and it's only my other half how uses a car to get to work. I thought I would ask on here first to see if anyone in a similar situation had found anything. It seems you can get discounts if you have more then one owners club car but there is nothing as yet for a mixed bunch.

Clegg Gifford in Romford. They do a Family Fleet policy that lets you insure many cars for your family.

Peter James Insurance. I went with them after Footman James started jacking prices up when they were sold out (to AEON Risk IIRC) They've been very good with me and the prices have been great. www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk
