This is my rare 1985 Saab 90 in Cherry Red. It is a 99 from front to B pillar and a 900 saloon then on. There are only a handful in the U.K. It was a genuine barn find high up in the hills near Barnard Castle, it is now almost ready for the road again 18 months later. It is 100% rust free and original, never been welded or painted. Luckily it had essentially been entombed in waxoyl.

Love it. Saw your thread on UKSaabs. Getting to be a very rare car now. When we had our first house in Glengormley there was a bloke near to us who had a 90 in that colour of red with minilite alloys and I always thought it was one of the neatest cars around. He always kept it immaculate but I'm sure its long gone now as this was about 15 years ago. Good to see that there's still a few about.

Nice one! I have heard that the 90 was "invented" and built only at Saab Uusikaupunki plant in Finland. At first the headquarters in Sweden didn't approve but after a while they got permission since the 99 was getting old. The spec options were very limited, base 100hp carb engine with 4-speed or 5-speed, the optional metallic paint and sunroof only available for the 5-speed. The latter also had a small front spoiler.

Very nice, I love the decals and us turbo wheels! I will watch your developments with interest as I have a 86 900 saloon in cherry red.

250 quid used to be the going rate lot for one of these. Back in the late 90's Every other saab in the scrapyard seemed to be an unloved giffer spec 90. I nearly bought one as my first saab but got a 900Gli instead!

Yet another classic Saab on here, that's great to see. Almost a 99 as well. lol I also saw this on UKSaabs. I must admit, for me, the early style 99 grill doesn't work (just personal preference of course). If you did decide you wanted to change back to the proper 90 style grill and surrounds, let me know as I have the correct style one and would be interested in parting with the stainless one that's on there now for my 1970 99 ;-)
Anyway, great looking car.

Will Hi Will, The reason for the early grill was practicality because the intention is for me to use the car as a daily and the original plastic grill is just not up to the job these days. The plastic is brittle and not in the best condition. I have always favoured the early grille, so found a N.O.S. Centre mesh and good used surrounds and nose. I don't think I will be changing them in my ownership but will supply the originals when I sell the car. You have a 70 99? Very nice.

Yes, a 1970 2dr, I bought it as a rolling shell, with no mechanicals and most of the interior missing (previously sold). I won't be returning it to original as it has already had the registration document changed to read 1985cc as it had a later injection H engine and 5 speed box fitted at one point. I want to fit a 16v non turbo lump and 5 speed box, but keep it looking pretty much standard outside and in. My current project though, is a 1975 99 EMS, 2dr in Silver. Intending to have it on the road in time for the Owners club National event in July. Will
