Evening guys.
After most my car driving years being spent in corsa b's and mk4 golfs and boras and the rest spent in vans i feel its time I should buy myself something a little older as a plodder/project.
My lovey bora has recently blew its turbo, I love it to pieces but I'm losing the love for working on her, i barley drive her anymore because I'm constantly in the van so I feel its wasted on me, I'm going to replace the turbo, put standard suspension back on wheels interior etc and probably sale it.
I'm in the mood for something older this time that I can pick and choose when to work on it, ive wanted a e30 for years but there getting pretty popular now so maybe a 190e, nova saloon, 80s 5 series or 7 etc something like that, so going by what I want I'm guessing you can sort of work out my budget, just want a rolling project.
Is there anything like this or similar I should also consider? I'm really keen to get something I can stick in the garage/drive and just pick and choose when needed!
Also if there's something your looking to get rid of that's within those lines give me a shout! I have cash or I'm a plasterer so could do a few favors if needed !

I would have a really good think about what you want. A nova and a 7 series are worlds apart. Do you want something like big a barge of a 7 series for cruising around in? Or would a nova built to be a B road blaster be more fun? Look around on the net, do research, then narrow it down to just one car, then set your budget and find one. If you like bmws then maybe an early 90s e36 would be a good choice, cheap to buy tons around, parts prices are sensible money. Also you can get one with a mot and have a working driving project, which is a lot more fun than something that's off the road that you can't use. Good luck.

Why not a corsa b again? Cheap, easy to work on and on the verge of being retro

I've got a very early Tigra (95N) in my yard not doing a lot, the shell is very sound - not perfect but good and it runs and drives but has a mystery flat spot which i've not got around to fixing, I think it's an air leak around the manifold somewhere! Ripe for a redtop transplant or something similar. Has the optional bigger brakes with newish front discs and flexis. Pics in an advert in banger section of cars for sale on here, you'll have to trawl, it was posted over a year ago. I'll let it go for £200 just to make space.
Steve
Edit, I've found the ad but the pics have vanished! If you're interested, drop me a PM and i'll repost them.

Go for the Nova saloon, rarer than a standard nova, definitely rarer that the bmw's! If you can find one for sensible money then I'd go for it. Easy to work on, good choice of upgrades and engine choices and they generally look cool! and on the more amusing end of the scale! Did someone say rat!

Loved my 2 door Nova saloon, nothing special, just a 1300s from a mkI Astra but it would see off SRs and do 52mpg at a steady 85 the old Varajet carb was vastly underrated! The saloon has a lot more class than the hatch, rarer too! I did fancy doing something in the wings and skirts line with mine, seeing that 4 door has made me glad I didn't! Only one bit of it now survives, I sold it to my window cleaner who lent it to his daughter who parked it in Brum and got it nicked! It came back on a truck but was fubared, the rare early SR dash I had in it is now in my Toledo. Steve

I do really fancy a nova saloonto be honest.
don't know why I've just always wanted a nova for years one of those itches I want to scratch.
I had a 1997 7 series that I bought cheap a few years back but sold on it was pretty awesome had the phone in and everything but wasn't my cup of tea.
I also had a e36 2.8 sport (one with lsd) a couple of years back that I done a m50 manifold conversion on and put a welded 2.3 diff in but again after some drift days it wasn't my cup of tea.
Its mostly pub talk at the moment I just want to see what's suggested and what's about, I'm not to fussy on mot or condition I just want something to fiddle with when I fancy it

most hot hatches of that era are going to be good fun, like yourself ive got a works van and have never eneded a car, we have one that the wife spends her time kerbing the wheels on and that's about it. Ive had in the past some pretty fast cars but the wife recently purchased a 1.9 205 gti rally car and ive had a couple of runs out through the lanes locally in it, its such a grin factor and a more standard road going one can be hat for a quite small budget, rust doesn't seem a big issue on them like xr2is of the era etc. Just worth looking around if your unsure what tickles your fancy. Personally I always wants a 205 gti when growing up so its tick in the box on that one. Now it just leaves a 5gtt raider and a nova gte

I have always liked the 190E. I really like the cosworth style ones, have thought about a B204 powered 190 cosworth replica style thing more than once.
Dez on this very board has a very cheap Vauxhall, Monza I think it is in the for sale section, bit rusty, nothing major, LPG and was at £500 Ono last time I looked of I remember correctly.
Ignore that down there, didn't read your reply.
I know you said E30, but what about a 36 coupe of some sort? Engine choice is plentiful, I think they're in that cross over period where they're affordable, readily avalible, cool, but haven't gained the "retro" price tag just yet. [\s]

Yeah 190e is a wonderful looking thing, a friend of my dads had the genuine cosworth years ago and I think that's why I always had my eyes on them most mercs from that era are beautiful but unfortunately there getting hard to find eather there past it or a too good example to be a project I seen that monza for sale but afrer a bit of google i couldn't find any places supplying replacement pannels, I may send the owner a question on it to see if he knows anything

My suggestion for times like this is to go for a car that you remember from when you were a child or just a younger adult. Something that you always wanted or just liked the look of or maybe a car a relative owned or learned to drive in? It maybe just the way I work but I think you're more likely to want to put the effort in during bad times if you've got an attachment to it (unless you grow that attachment as you go )

But were as they were like £100 then there like £2000 now, but saying that when I was 13/14/15 £100 felt like £5000 in todays money! I'm 25 so anything to old ill have no attachment to, I think the 80's and early 90's cars are what I'm attached to, novas,xr2s,205s,sierras etc the stuff you'll see the "cool kids" in when you were 10 years old walking back from football training! My dad had a Mitsubishi starion when I was young id kill for one of those !
