www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C734346# <--- They typically go for £1500+ so part of me thinks that this car is a touch overpriced. Condition looks good. I have actually got another picture of the car which makes me think the level of rusting should be fairly minimal. Is it worth going for it? The guy over the phone didn't seem willing to go much below what he stated. EDIT: Does anyone live near there to go and have a look for me?

Looks pretty good to me, you could always say you've got £1750. You'll come to see it, if it's for you then you'll give him the cash, if it's not you'll go home, no haggling. Saves arguing about money once your there. I've had a couple of people do this and taking the money element out of the equation makes things more straightforward. If he tells you 1750 isn't enough over the phone then you say fine, give him your no and tell him he's welcome to call you back, but you may of bought another by then.

I don't know why you are faffing about. The pictures and description tell the story of a 38 year old car that is in excellent condition and, apparently, hasn't even seen a welder. Everything about it suggests its been cherished and will need only minimal and regular basic maintenance to keep it reliable daily transport. Seriously, there aren't that many Marinas for sale as it is and the £1500 jobbies Ive seen in the past are nowhere near as clean as this one. Its worth the money, maybe get £100 knocked off the price but you will have a long wait to find as good cheaper and the money you may save you will end up throwing at your new 'bargain' Its a no brainer.

The guy over the phone didn't seem willing to go much below what he stated. EDIT: Does anyone live near there to go and have a look for me? It's always very difficult to get an accurate impression from a few photos, you need to crawl all over the car & under it, drive it, listen to it. Superficially it looks OK, not a rot-box. It sounds genuine. The engines are not superlative but neither are they awful, if it's got 76,000 miles on it there should be a good few years left in the engine. It's a car that you could gradually improve over time. As I mentioned in the other thread the issue would come really with not having it under cover, driving in the rain, using it on gritted roads in the Winter. It will start to deteriorate! (You can take measures to slow down this process like waxoyling / undersealing) You've seen the prices of the really nice Marinas out there, this is the cheapest, (but it's not nasty). If you're not that hot on cars, (yet), you should try to take someone along who knows their onions. Someone who knows what they're looking for will hopefully spot any expensive defects & identify flaws / faults which gives you leverage to haggle the price down. If you've taken a mate, make a point of discussing flaws / faults & asking him how much they'll cost to remedy; you won't get it down to £1,500 but you'll probably manage to knock £200-£300 off. Get quotes from classic car insurers prior to viewing so that you can activate a policy immediately if you decide to buy. Get recovery. Go waving readies! This guy has another purchase lined up, he doesn't want to have this car hanging around indefinitely. Be amiable but don't make it too obvious you're really keen. You're probably never going to see the vendor again so don't worry about being their best friend, don't offend them but don't give away more of your hard earned cash than you need to.
