This is a question about my campervan project, not quite retro but I'm hoping I can get some advice from the many clued up people on here.
When I'm out in my Citroen Relay van and I have to do a very tight left turn, there is a bang sound. When I start going straight the van now pulls to the left. If I pull up and turn the steering wheel to the right there's another bang and now the van drives perfectly straight. The same thing happens if turn round a tight right corner. There's a bang and the van will pull to the right and I have to stop and turn the wheel to the left and it will pop again and sort itself out.
I used to have an earlier model relay and it did the same thing, so one day at my local garage we put it up on the ramps and lifted the front wheels up and had a look. When the wheels were turned to nearly full lock the coil spring would go bang and spin at the bottom. When we turned the wheels the other way they spring would jump again and move back to where it was.
Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening? I'm not sure of the correct way of describing it buy my mate at the garage said the springs were winding then jumping.
When I traded my first relay in and got my newer one I never had this problem. It started to happen last year, for the last few months I've hardly used the van, and I've found the problem is getting worse while the van has been standing.
