Fun project! The way I got into cars was working in the garage with my dad at a young age.
Don't know if they are any use to you, but I have a pair of 14x7" (i think) appliance slots here in 4x130 that are now surplus to requirement.

Well it had the mahoosive washer when we took it apart But it's not really a huge surprise we can't find it (This is actually packed, it was all out on the lawn yesterday, and got packed away like Tetris when it started to rain ) Hopefully a solution will be along by the next installment!

Got some new mahoosive washers, and shiny hub bearing covers, Not fitted them yet, they are safely stored Was hoping this weekend to be building a shed at the farm i store the fugitive to help with our storage issues... but the mate who is sorting it went away so think that'll be weekend after next It's absolutely threw it down with rain this afternoon, so that, and Lucy worked last night and tonight, so has slept all night has scuppered us quite a bit. But we cleaned up the steering arms that have been in citric acid all week, and had a clean up of the rear torsion bars that have been in a few days (then put them back to soak a bit more) and had a clean up of the steering box. Everything had had a really thick coat of some black paint, but it was peeling off and was really patchy so it's nice to get rid of it! We'll have to give stuff some primer tomorrow to stop the rust, and see what else, if anything, we can do!

Don't know what your rear tyre plans are, but it might be worth changing to the shorter torsion bars from a swing axle bug and modified swing axle spring plates. With the stock IRS long torsion bars you are limited to about 28 or 29" tyres IIRC. Only thing is that it will be a slightly firmer ride with the shorter springs.

John, what is the citric acid that you use? Seems to be doing a cracking job!

If you do want to change to the shorter torsion bars give me a shout I have a set,and some appropriate spring plates that you will need to cut and drill to fit IRS.

So yeah, I'd be interested in them Let me know what you want for them

I remember BCR from my baja days. They used to do 3x3 conversions too.
You just need this bit:
"If you want to remove the IRS stub that is common on the stock IRS spring plate, the swingaxle plate can be used after simple modification. A drilling and cutting jig can be made with a stock IRS spring plate, and a piece of cardboard, or thin sheet metal. Trace the shape and hole positions from the IRS spring plate and trace onto the swingaxle spring plate. Be sure to flip the pattern over on one of them since the holes are different from left to right.
The original holes are slotted to allow for alignment. If the car is to be driven on the street, or there is a need for adjustment after installation is complete, then the holes can be elongated with a die grinder. A trip to the alignment shop would be smart."
If you want to, with two sets of plates, you can make adjustable spring plates so you can quickly alter and trim ride height without having the spring plates off.
As for mine... You can have the bars for the postage (call it a present for your boy). The spring plates are on loan so will ask what the owner wants for them (if anything).

(If you want to make adjustable, no need to drill... It's just a bit of cutting and welding, I can talk you through it).

I think we'd build it as is, then work out how low to go, so getting a second set could be a good project for when we strip back down to paint it! Tom says Thanks, and let me know when you know and I'll send you some dosh

Just read my previous post.... Tom did say thanks, but didn't offer to pay anything. The offer of money was unsurprisingly from me:D Did a little more, primed and painted the steering rods and finished cleaning up the steering box We also finished cleaning up the rear torsion tubes, primed them to stop them rusting as we'd cleaned them up and it'd be a shame to not do finish them off even if we aren't going to use them We also cleaned, primed and painted the rear spax, in grey to match the fronts (not race car yellow, but a lot better than rusty yellow And had a play with steering wheels and column parts, I think the buggy has a metro spline (as the switch gear was mk2 metro (or whatever else used the same)) we have a quick release hub to fit, but we're looking to see if it was worth trying to integrate the VW steering lock (using the bits from the 412 column we got for £2 at Stonor Park) but think that will involve cutting and rewelding the column a couple more times, so may try to remove (or remake) the VW lock parts and fit them to the existing column.... We put some more bits in to soak And the dog came and helped, by leaving slobber and dog treat all over Toms socket set We are getting to the point where we need to start looking at the frame again!

Had another weigh in, and we were given some money for the project, So had a bit of a spending spree.... Bought some rear lights, LED ones, we'll need to make brackets when we sort the frame... so needed them soon (or measurements) And some LED headlights, with built in indicators, they are 7" units to fit in the light units we have.... which are (like everything else) a bit bodged, so we may need new shells too, but we have the old ones to set stuff up with! They are Chinese, but seem ok quality, so we'll see But there is a wiring harness that'll need a bit of sorting when we get to that, and probably cut the plugs off! Also got an empi a-frame secondhand from buggy forum Which will be handy when we get wheels on the frame And we've got tickets to the Gathering!!! We are away camping, returning from Shell Island on the Sunday so will be passing anyway.... which meant I managed to convince Lucy to let us go! So we'll be there, in a boring skoda estate with a roof bag full of wet tent no doubt! We have a bit of a plan, to get the fugitive on the road and drive it to the Gathering next year, then strip it and paint it etc after that! So the a-frame may be even handier!!

Had a quick play.... Sidelight, or drl Indicators (this is why we got them, this means we don't need separate indicators at the front) Dipped and main beam

Stupid question but what happens when you're running sidelights and indicate Dan I would guess that rather than sidelights they're DRL's and when you indicate they go out.

Yeah, there are 2 looms into the light, the drl and indicator on one, when you touch the indicator feed to the battery the drl goes out and the indicator works. There is also a feed to the indicators from the main light feeds so think that may dim slightly so the indicator can be seen (I've seen that on new Audis with LEDs) but didn't play with that as I was just touching wires onto a battery

Have you got a link for the headlights.
I'm thinking of doing some combined DRL/indicators and would want the DRLs to go off with the indicators (but not flash).
