£500 with 12 months MOT to the man on the street perhaps more on here for someone interested in cars . The problem is that the general public will see it as deeply unfashionable . But someone after a good cheap car will not .

Yep I'm in agreement with the above, possible it may make around £800 on here

Agree on the £500, that's one to stick away for 25 years and it'll be very desirable.

For what it's worth, I was going to say £500 too. Unfortunate for your mate, as it really should be worth loads more - but great for people who want an awesome base vehicle that can be really cool on a budget.

You haven't mentioned what engine is in it which will make a difference. My Dad has a 1.4VVTI 3 door as his daily knockabout, it's 2000 and has never given him a moment of trouble. They're great little cars to drive, fast when he drives it, 60+ mpg when I drive it.
I still see low or single owner, low mileage examples on with dealers for up to £2,500 on occasion.
Is the underside as clean as the rest of it? I'm assuming long MOT?
The car has to be worth something to him, (take that £500 as a starting point). The only way you'll get the real value is to auction it. On ebay with a £500 reserve it might get up to about £850?
He could 'try it on' on Gumtree - put it on for £950 with a view to coming down to whatever someone's prepared to pay for it.
