For sale is my genuine special edition MGB GT Jubilee with 48,700 miles. The Jubilee is one of only two special edition MGB’s produced (the other being the 1980 LE) and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the MG factory. This is car number 417 of 750. Jubilee’s are all rubber bumper GT’s in a unique BRG. They were fitted with gold decals and gold V8 alloy wheels. This particular car has had its decals removed and its gold wheels repainted but it is a genuine car with written confirmation from the MGB Jubilee & Limited Edition’s Owners Club confirming its legitimacy.
Some of the features:
- MoT until October, and tax exempt. Insurance is cheap with a classic policy.
- 1.8 B-Series with unleaded conversion. Stainless steel exhaust from the manifold back. K&N-style air filters with MG-engraved alloy cover.
- Column operated overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear, which operates smoothly.
- Recent clutch replacement (although no receipt)
- Has a factory-fitted full-length Webasto sun-roof, large steering wheel, centre console and a few other extras (including the original rubber floor mats).
- V8 alloys, standard for a Jubilee, which are in good condition and include 2 new tyres (which have done less than a few hundred miles). A spare V8 allow wheel is also present.
- All dials, gauges and lights are fully functional. A radio/casette with twin rear speakers is fitted.
- All the doors lock (a common fault is non-locking doors), although the passenger door does not lock from the outside. This is due to the connecting rod falling out the back of the lock.
This Jubilee has never been restored. The bodywork is solid with minimal surface corrosion, and absolutely no structural corrosion. The sills, castle rails, wings, scuttle, rear wheel wells, rear quarters, and door posts are solid. The only metalwork done was a minor repair done by myself to the front of the drivers side wing which had holed. This was cut out and welded properly and is currently in primer. The bonnet has suffered from corrosion to the front corner but is still relatively solid. The paint is original but tired. Overall though it’s a very presentable car for its age and the paint still looks relatively good considering its age.
The engine is the original block and pulls well in all gears with no hesitation. It gets roughly 25mpg, which is typical for this engine and indicates a good state of tune. It will do motorway speeds no problem and has taken me on a 300 mile round trip in the pouring rain without any drama.
The following work has also been done recently for the MoT and also for peace of mind:
- Front kingpins replaced
- New brake master cylinder
- New front brake caliper (drivers side)
- New front discs and pads
- New rear wheel slave cylinders and brake shoes
- New brake flexi-hoses all round
- New front to rear brake line
- New clutch master cylinder
- New clutch slave cylinder
- New steering rack gaiters
- New rear suspension bushes
- New top radiator hose
- New front tyres
- Passenger seat belt replaced
Overall it’s a very useable MGB GT and a great way to get into classic car ownership. You can get in and drive away or you can use it as a very solid base for restoring it to a show winning special edition!
