Hi,
I live in Abingdon just outside Oxford, living in a petrol head house hold space has become a limiting factor. Looking for a reasonable sized garage, or unit to rent myself or share for a sensible price. Ideally need to be able to house and comfortably work on my potential hill climb project.
Thanks,
Tom

Garage space in/around Oxford is ridiculously expensive and hard to find. Good luck, and if you do find somewhere big that's reasonably priced, post up here and I'm sure you'll find some people only too happy to share with you! I know I'd consider it... Cheers Duncan

The major limiting factor is that there are no family owned / old farms around / Many have professional industrial units let through proper agencies with contracts , or they have been turned into Offices .
It doers seem to be a case of word of mouth around here or knowing someone personally - being Oxfordshire we all now how unfriendly/suspicious people are around here [ yes I'm from here ! ]
I cant think of any place around here and i don't think people will like cold calling [ see suspicious above ] I did find somewhere between Wantage and Steventon but he wanted £500 a month for a wooden shed , with no power- then he told me i could not work on it on there !! Dissapointed at that he showed me a stable built out of scrap wood , with no windows , a single household door and a floor of mud 12" lower than outside !.
I can only suggest wracking your brains for friends or friends of friends who might know someone .
Perhaps try some of the garages and ask around , or maybe the bodyshop tucked up by Lodge Hill Garage ?
The farm on the way to Wantage on the left [ road from a420 to Wantage ] before the crem , where there are bangers visible from the road ? [ i think someone restores vws there ]

I couldn't agree more. I used to rent a place on a farm towards Longworth, it was actually off a garage, friends dad etc. got a very reasonable rate for it, with electricity.
Before I started to rent that one I looked at a couple, much like the one you described mud floored tin shacks for extortionate prices! I am in Abingdon so was hoping to find something a little closer than my previous one as it was around 20 minutes away. Seems to be very tricky though as you say!

My mate rents the yard you have mentioned off the A338 and its his bangers, he used to have most of the buildings but the rent went too high, he's still paying over £500 for a very small unit, plus business rates.
I'm local and do have a workshop but again its for Business and even tho on a old farm its also subject to rates as most are now.
There was a place at the top of lodge hill at the farm there but not sure if they still do it.

Thanks, Tom Hi Tom, I have a large 4,500 square foot shared workshop in Hungerford (just 2mins off M4 J14) which has concrete floors, great lighting, power, water and even a kitchen and bathroom with a shower. There is also a 2 post lift which makes life a lot easier as well as other useful equipment available for use including chassis bench and jigs, chassis tube bender, MIG/TIG welders, plasma cutter etc. Let me know if you are interested in some space.

That's exactly why I got my own large workshop to share to make it more accessible and affordable for other project car enthusiasts to get involved as well so we could build a good hub of activity. I can provide a good sized workshop space for £150/month which makes it a much more viable option so anybody who is interested let me know.
