I bought this about 3 months ago with a view to restoring it and keeping it as something to take to shows and meets. As always something else has come up and this, along with a couple of other cars has to go.
When I bought it I drove it straight to an mot where it failed mostly on welding (other things were tyres, wipers and a few other little things). As this was going to be a restoration project I pulled the wings off and worked my way front to back on both side cutting out all of the rust and bad metal (of which there was lots) on the 'under side' of it, and replacing it with good. Some of the areas worked on were fronts of (both) front inner wings near headlights, (both) back ends of both front inner wings, (both) areas of chassis legs towards the front, passenger front footwell, spare wheel well, plus a few other bits and bobs that looked a bit 'frilly' so where also cut out and replaced. Non of this was patch up repairs, all repair sections were made to replace the cut out sections and we're let in and dressed up.
The upper body work does have some bubbling here and there and there is a small hole under the bottom corner of the rear window (this seems to be a common place for them to go. My plan was to sort the upper body work at a later date and then get it blown over, but that isn't going to happen now. It's been resprayed in the past and this seems to of held up pretty well, although there are some scratches (mostly on the roof from memory). That said it does look respectable and tidy enough.
The interior was clean and tidy when I picked it up but has become dusty from being in my unit for the past few months, it's mostly the drivers seat from being driven in and out. I have some interior cleaner to try and get it clean but didn't have time while cleaning the car eailer.
It isn't a ghia according to the log book but is badged up as one and seems to have lots of ghia parts fitted to it.
It runs and drives as it should. The battery has been a little lazy when first starting it while it's been in the unit but this may be ok now that the car is being used, if not I'll chuck a new one on.
Pics:
I have plenty more pics of the work done that I can send to any one interested over whatsapp, uploading them all to photobucket and posting on here is taking ages on my phone. Although I will get a few better pics of it tomorrow
