Cheers AJ, they do seem to be coming out of the woodwork now which is great coz there cracking cars. I've had this seven years in September, I think it is the last 3 door estate on the island and the DL prefix is unique to the isle of wight.
Thanks elstro1988 they are tsw wheels which my friends dad bought in the 80's to put on a cosworth replica.

I had a Breg mk3 3door estate in the same colour bought for £180 in 2001 with mot and tax!! I had it a couple of years was a good surf bus, then gave it to a mate who had just passed his test and I wasn't using it by then, he had it a few months then scraped it, sad to think of it now. It was a 1.3 CVH on a 4speed I bolted in a 1.6 CVH out of an 88 Orion but the 5speed wouldn't fit so left the 4speed in. It was pretty quick of the line but was rubbish on a long run. Wish I still had it now...

You'll have to go red funnel instead mate, tell them you need to on the bottom deck, that's what we normally do! Cheers foldy I prefer the darker recaros with red cars, need to get that steering wheel recovered really. Charlie I used black hammerite for the underneath, it looks nice and is quite hard wearing, wasn't much fun laying on those stones doing it though, got some Shultz to try on it as well. Its lowered 40mm mate, gmax supersport shocks and springs. Rob. Moorhen - Out of interest, how do you find the Gmax shocks and springs perform?? Cheers mate!!

Managed to get hold of an escort gti a couple of weeks ago so going to stick the zetec in the estate. Can't decide whether to keep it injection or go for carbs? I'm confident to change the engine but haven't a clue when it comes to wiring!! I stared taking the dash out yesterday and I can see where the wires for the pats goes. I know a guy who's done this conversion so I think I'll talk to him for some advice. Few pics of the gti. Any advice gratefully appreciated!

Is the GTi beyond saving? They're getting rare themselves.
(I'm biased, my parents had a non-GTi on a P, years ago)

The gti failed its mot on rust and its very tatty so I personally wouldn't try to save it. Had a good few hours on the estate this afternoon I need to remove the drive shafts and the engine is ready to come out. I'm going to give the bay a good clean before the zetec goes in.

looks like a fun project...
It may be easier to swap ecu and computer with the motor, unless everything is the same from car to car...

I have never done the conversion using an internal pats ecu but I would say the halo wiring runs straight to the ecu loom. I would run it to go round your ignition barrel in the Mk4 after having a new key cut so the Mk4 key accepts the transponder, giving you an immobiliser. There are plenty of wiring guides online to wire the main plug into the Mk4 on the ecu loom.

So what your saying is basically get a key the same as the gti would have with the red bit on it cut for my original ignition barrel? The wires as far as I can see run from the PATS to the ecu in the passenger side footwell. Is there a plug then that will plug into my original loom as my estate obviously doesn't have an ecu?

Yes you will then have a key for your Mk4 with the transponder in it. Giving you an immobiliser. Better than just cable tieing the old key to the halo like many do. The ecu loom connects to the car loom via 1 plug with about 10 wires in it. Cut the plug off the car loom and wire it into your Mk4 and then you can unplug the ecu loom later should you need to change the loom etc.

I did have wiring problems doing the escort but what is stated for which wire goes where is correct. My problems were caused by using the wrong live. As I was told on that thread the power to the old coil is the wire to use. I have put one in a fiesta since and it started first time but I didn't list the wiring connections on that thread but I followed the notes I had made on the escort.

Thanks Phil I have read both your escort and fiesta threads. I will have a look into the wiring side once the zetec is in the estate but having your advice is a big help. Not a very successful evening tonight nothing seemed to go to plan so I downed tools and I will try again tomorrow evening! Bloody cars!!

Little update got the engine out if the estate last night. Had a chat with a mate at beauliea on Sunday and he's going to sort the wiring for the zetec for me. Next job is to clean the engine bay up then get the dash out ready to run the wires then we can start taking the gti apart.
