EQUIPMENT
All steel monocoque body, torsionally resistant safety cell, impact-absorbing front and rear sections, heat insulating safety glass, laminated windscreen, heated twin washer nozzles, electric sliding roof, central locking, electric window lifters, panoramic windscreen wiper, pneumatic headlamp range adjust, parking lights, first aid kit, remote rear headrest lowering, fine wood veneer cappings, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors. Factory options; front central armrest, metallic paint, paint coat preservation.
EXTERIOR
The elegant angular lines of the W124 Mercedes-Benz are instantly recognisable, and this 230E example is a fantastic testament to this design classic. Finished in factory optional Astral Silver Metallic (code 735) the beautifully polished paint finish is fantastic and all original panels are straight with even gaps. Minor age related markings are visible upon inspection but hardly warrant a mention. All trim sections are fully intact with no damage and the supplying dealer number plates remain fitted. Having remained in Husband and Wife ownership since it was 11 months old, it is clear to see the car was their pride and joy and has been cherished and preserved accordingly. An excellent example synonymous with exceptional Mercedes-Benz build quality.
INTERIOR
The superbly engineered and beautifully finished cabin space of the Mercedes-Benz W124 is widely renowned for unparalleled build quality. Ergonomically designed for optimum comfort, the contoured seats trimmed in original Black Fabric (code 371) are very clean and only slight thinning to the fabric on the drivers bolster is evident. The seat bases and bolsters remain absolutely firm and have retained all shape. The door cards, headlining, dashboard and switchgear are perfect, and all functions and controls operate seamlessly. Original touches such as the Blaupunkt Casablanca SQR49 stereo and service stickers in the driver’s door shut are pleasing to see. Even the untouched Mercedes first aid kit is housed in the rear shelf compartment! An immensely comfortable and well-appointed interior, built to the highest standard.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the Mercedes four cylinder 8v unit of 2299cc displacement, the engine produces 132bhp at 5100rpm and 198Nm of torque at 3500rpm. A top speed of 124mph and 0-62 in 10.6 seconds is achieved effortlessly in this exceptionally well maintained example. The four speed Tempomat automatic transmission features sport and economy modes and operates exactly as the manufacturer intended with smooth changes and positive kick down. Effortless motoring indulgence.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original chromium plated alloy wheel rims look stunning and are well presented with only light markings and scratches to the outer rims. Matching quality Dunlop SP Sport 205/60 R15 tyres have good tread remaining. The pristine boot area houses the spare wheel alongside the original toolkit roll, jack and warning triangle. Dual-circuit servo braking system with anti-lock assistance (ABS) offers excellent straight line stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 24th May 1990 by Mercedes-Benz main agents Greenoaks Motor Company of Croyden, this UK example was purchased from the first keeper at just 11 months old by Mr Dennis Seal. Upon his passing in 2014, ownership passed to his wife Catherine with whom it has remained since. This cosseted 230E has been exceptionally well maintained with the original service book displaying 20 stamped entries, and less than 1,500 miles has been covered since the most recent service. Furthermore, the car has only ever been maintained initially by the supplying main dealer in the early years and thereafter by the same Mercedes Benz specialist, Keys of Bexleyheath.
Representing an exceptionally well maintained and preserved example, this low mileage Mercedes offers truly capable everyday classic motoring for those wishing to appreciate this German marque at it pinnacle level.
MOT January 2017, HPI Clear.
