Another week of... And then freedom for a weekend, Saturday morning spent dropping off the trim panels at the body shop and Saturday afternoon spent doing house diy jobs. Decided to have a little casual time spent on the cactus suspension this morning. The biggest part of the whole process was trying to wrestle the wheel carrier down whilst hoisting the strut up out of it. Actual bolt removals were kind to me. A combination of 16mm / 17mm / 22mm sockets, and 6mm Allen key, and T30 and T40 bits were the order of the day. Height before ... Wheel off ... Side by side strut comparison... Strut in, much easier than removal, all bolts tightened up. Wheel back on... Height after, not sure how much this will change after I’ve dropped the other side and dropped the rear... The jack just about squeezed back out from the jacking point so a nice for a daily.

My video of my Acty was included in part 3 of Projects of the people on YouTube last night.
If you want to know some of the background story of the Acty that might have been missed on this thread and hear my lovely voice (it’s really not lovely - subtitles are available) watch below...

Another week of work done. Blue skies and lighter afternoons are gradually winning out but temperatures are bitter and giving my fingers pain. I’ve had the opportunity to make steady progress at lunch times and shorter periods meant I could get jobs done with the cold affecting me less. By the time i had finished I’d removed the passenger strut, only after cutting the drop link off with the grinder (replacement £13.49) and cutting the springs off a coil at a time to give less resistance against the scissor jack that i used to force the strut up out of the hub. After i removed it I went in for a warm and to do some house diy jobs, when I went back out I was greeted with a puddle of gear oil that had leaked at the inner cv joint. I’ll top up and check level and hope it’ doesn’t need a new seal. No more photos from this point as the sub zero temperatures made my phone think the battery was flat?! But I fitted up the new strut and dropped it down only to find that the arch liners were sitting on the tyres! I could adjust the struts to raise a bit but before I do that I removed the arch liners and it gave enough space to make it roll but not enough clearance to steer more than a little bit. New tyres ordered to give me an extra 15mm of clearance at the top (30mm) in total but half of that will make it sit lower still so the bottom bumper lip will need to come off. How it currently sits... I’m not going to start the rear until I’m happy with the front end and so I can diagnose and issues / noises to be caused by the front changes alone.

Don’t forget lowering the rear will lift the bumper off the floor slightly so you may not need to pull the aero lip off

Thats going to look sweet, could the extra lows have something to do with the drop links being off or did you re-fit that?

joem83 / mk2cossieI’m starting to wonder if I was supposed to fit the 2” high rubber cone underneath the top mount but the spring seat / top cup fits perfectly in between the top of the spring and the top mount so all feels right.

Just be aware that if the front lower arms are pointing up in the air, it won't have the lovely PSA biased handling

Rubber cone? As long as there is a bearing betwixt mount and spring seat it should be right..

Ahh, ees plastic. It’s just the stock spring seat, definitely not needed on the coilovers. Don’t you mean you circled the part on the coilovers in mint sauce?
