I drove to London and back yesterday, this gives me a bit of thinking time in the car, usually I spend the time worrying about what I need to do next for The Gathering or The Summer Holiday, but I'm on top of both those things at the moment, so instead I spent it worrying that I've not put up any threads on here that aren't show reports for a while. As I'm thinking about this lack, an Espace 2 comes past, I've not seen one for a while and it occurred to me that whilst I'd love a full house Japanese style Estima/Previa at some point, there must be European alternatives that are a bit cheaper and easier to find. The Espace being the most obvious. Imagine (if you will) Done in the style of What other European one box shaped MPVs are there from the 90's? VW Sharan (maybe a bit new?)

Like you said the galaxy/sharan/alahambra, earliest ones are just about old enough to be retro i guess (95)and can come in vr6 4x4 flavor if thats your thing There were also the Citroën Synergie/Fiat Ulysse/Peugeot 806 (and Lancia Zeta if you can find an import) but they are maybe a bit boxy for the look Chrysler voyager maybe? seem really cheap at the moment other than that there aren't all that many i can think of. most are either too new, Japanese or American

Sharalaxys have been on my radar for a few years now. I nearly bought one but it was just a bit too big for my needs, I ended up with a Kangoo Van instead. This one has been around for ages: Carrosserie-Maurer VW Sharan by Retro-Motoring and WoertherseePics.com, on Flickr I'm surprised there aren't more, there must be loads of people who got into modified cars at a younger age and now have kids etc, this sort of thing really should be more popular.

Wanted to do this sort of thing when we had a Shalaxhambra (technically, some Shalaxhambras, as Mrs_pOG made a mess of the first one all over J27 of the M25). I guess* that there's a lot of THOU SHALT NOT DICK ABOUT WITH THE FAMILY CAR type of conversations that go on. 806/Synergie/Ulysse deffo have potential too. In a way I'm ticked off that this thread has come along now, as I am trying to get some things to happen to make 2016 the Year of the Minivan, and wanted to be first past the post.

Came out a bit late I guess, 1999, but one of these is just crying out for a proper "Rebaixados" treatment - scraping along on huge Volcano wheels: Some two-toning along that style-crease, massive wheels, a few trick touches, airride? Winner. And from 1995...

A workmate had a Ford Galaxy Si with the VR6 engine, offered it to me for 600 quid in 2008. It was immaculate inside and out. Half leather raven interior, darkish red paint (Noveau i think), i did like it but it just wasn't what i was looking for at the time.
Haven't seen one since.

Personally I've quite fancied a mk1 Renault Espace for ages, even thought about trekking up to Scotland to buy the one that FOAD had up for grabs, but I just don't have the time, which is a poor excuse. Pity, I reckon it would've looked great in a Cal-Look stylie! I'll chance stepping on the shoes of EmDee , but I had this once ance always thought about doing something with it... As for 2016 being the Year of the Minivan, trust me it's not, but I reckon 2017 might be!

I've just bought a Zafira to be holiday transport for the family. I looked round at all sorts and would have loved an early Espace but have lots of Vauxhall stuff kicking about to act as spares if needed. The only plus point for the one I bought is that it's got a set of 17" wheels fitted on it already not sure if thats a good thing or not.

If you wanted a retro MPV, and something not quite so pokey as a Fiat 600 Multipla... You are surely stuck with a small and uninviting list - Dodge Caravan; Nissan Prairie, Pontiac Trans Sport, Diahatsu Hijet, Mitsubishi Space Wagon/Star, Toyota Hiace, Chevy Astro maybe? But as you can see, not much in the way of the OP's brief. Apart from the 1984 onwards Espace there's not much on offer from the European brands. Best i can find is a selection of models launched around 1994/5. Most have been covered already; the VW/Ford/SEAT collaboration and the Citroen/Peugeot/Fiat combined effort. All I can find in the way of forgotten MPVs: The Opel/Vauxhall Sintra 1996-1999, withdrawn due to being terminally awful.
