	Thought is was about time I put up a thread for the MK1 RS I bought last summer and has been tucked up in the garage... As the MK2 trackday car is now runnning well and not taking up so much of my time. The plan is to restore and not leave a bolt untouched, with no rush to complete.... Especially after looking at Marks Merion BRG restore.... I found the car advertised on Facebook and jumped on it for a viewing pretty quickly as it was fairly local and still had the Recaro seats and 15" BBS wheels.... Some pics from when I got it... Filling up at the garage on the way home Tucked up in the garage... started a couple of times a month and left on a trickle charger Day 1 So armed with a pen/pad/tags/small plastic bags and a big cardboard I started stripping the interior... Seats removed Interior attacked as I bagged everything and listed it All boxed up.... Looks like the gaiter will need replacing so this is added to the list if parts to buy (Gonna be a long long list) Carpet from behind the seats removed - All lovely and bone dry band not a matted mess like some I have removed before Last nights purchase from Vindi Russel Maruha Coilovers

	Apologies, was being lazy a copy and pasting from another site…. So started this project a mid September… I’ll do a full update now to where I am currently… Deep breathe So got the car backed out on driveway for a bit more space, a couple of pics Got carried away now the dash is fully out. Impressed with how dry in the passngers footwell is, (ECU located down here) All the parts in the garage Onto the blower one evening, this thing was hell of a state with the foam all disintegrating and all sorts of rubbish inside All cleaned and foam replaced and re assembled Radiator fans cleaned before and after pics Next onto the pedal assembly that was a stripped down, the pedal were covered in dust and surface rust… New genuine pedal rubbers added also post photo taking Some other parts sprayed up (wipers/bumper brackets/steering hanger beam from the IP) Steering column wire brushed masked and sprayed… looking much better now Now back to the body This was weekend of the 23/24 Oct work… The MX5 has a rolling chassis that enables the body to be taken off the roller skate. So the plan was to get the roller skate consisting of the subframes, engine/gearbox which in movable on its own wheel into the garage. It went som thing like this I had to knouck up a frame to sit the body on to get it high enough to roll the skate out from underneath. A trip to B and Q and I was sorted with £30 worth of timber…. So once the rollerskate is in the garage next step was to strip in down into what looks like a pile of junk! A nice job for the Sunday morning tackling rust bolts…. Made a start on removing the bushes as I’m getting all wishbones re powder coated That brings me bang up to date…

	That time again for a little bit of an update…. So got a fair bit going on, Subframes and Wishbones Subframes are stripped of wishbones, and 80% of the bushes are out of the wishbones, I didn’t resort to fire to remove them, but have got through many broken/stripped lengths of M10 threaded bar (8.8 Grade) and cracked my cheap Clarke vice in the process, The remaining ones are with a friend from work for him to press out for me, he’s also going to press out the driveshafts from the hub. Electrolysis Bath Put together electrolysis bath from Hammys guide to start rust removal on parts, so far 2 brake carriers have been bathed, and wire brushed with good results. Got plenty of other parts to go through this bath now I know it works with good results….. Engine Engine is now up on a stand (cheers for the help Ross) and is now had some parts removed) and a parts washer purchase for a bit of cleaning…. Some pics from last night strip down… Ross on the end of the camera as my phone has taken a tumble and is *******…. Bit of labelling and organising Wrestling the exhaust cam/CAS out HLA’s out Head off – Where the explosions happen!!! Underside of the head Next step is to decide if to dismantle the head and get a skim (probably no need) Wishbones will hopefully be back from my mate early next week then I’ll get them off to the powder coaters to smarten them up….. Got a fairly big box that needs shotblast attention! Tonight I picked up some parts from the soda blasters... Results look good, very happy... Had the sump, gearbox, inlet manifold and cam cover done plus a couple of other odds and soda Let the pics do the talking... So it been a busy Christmas for me, not on the MK1 though may I add. Managed to get a couple of hours in this evening and started to strip the cylinder head... Put together a couple of slides to get quotes together for the suspension components coating.... If anyone want a copy of them for quoting purposes PM me and I email them over... Mark (Totally MX5 repair) hope you don't mind me using your photos of mei's beast.... Got some time on the car (car parts rather) this evening... Started to prep and paint the block... Front splash guards and knuckles painted... Came out pretty good!!! Not bad for 22 year old parts... Parts loaded up in the van, and dropped off at shot blast /coaters in Cardiff.... Ohlins that I may put on.... Lightweight one seater.... Jan 22, 2016 10:02:21 GMT: That's obviously a super light rs with only one seat too Ha ha RASC Quick update, picked up some parts from the soda blasters, 2nd batch of parts, need to get some paint on them. Pics below Diff done Oil pump, cleaned up, need to get a new seal Some other parts Throttle body up close Prop shaft and PPF Made a purchase this week... Bench grinder with brass wheel So set to work starting to clean the bolts ready to take to the electroplaters next week..... So.... Picked up the bolts and fastenings from electro players... I'll let the pics do the talking... Mass of bolts being sorted.... Close up of bumper bolts... I think the time at the bench grinder paid off... An assortment of brackets, spare wheel washer, engine lifting eyes, power steering brackets... And a little bit of assembly, splash guards to knuckles..

	Impressive attention to detail,i reckon we'll see a lot more nut and bolt Roadster rebuilds in the coming years. Nice car,it looks like a good shell,just that spot of surface rust on the top of the sill where the kick plate rubs,mines the same there. Those shift gaiters don't last long for some reason,couple of years or so max.

	So got some time on the engine this weekend… Time to start butting stuff back together…. Finally… Oil pump ready to go back on with new gasket and o-ring Oil pump in place with new moon gaskets and old sealant removed from sump face Sealant in place on the nice refreshed sump…. Need a steady hand for this job Next step was genuine water pump and gasket ready to go on, OLD Vs new… Freshly coated bolts picked out… Cam belt tensioner and pulleys again old Vs new… Everything in place and torqued up AC Bracket bolted up, after being sprayed…. New water inlet bolted up…. Next items to get the paint treatement… Stay tuned…

	Nice progress,as above a textbook job on one of the most sought after models ! When was it imported out of interest,i've been amazed at how rust free my V-Spec is for a 91,but it didn't oome over until 2003 and then was laid up in the UK for several years too.

	I was lucky to find it with seats and wheels still bolted to it... It was imported in 2002....

	Cheers all for the good feedback on my progress... Quick update again from last night activites… Need to get some pace on now as want to get the body in the garage to start work on it… Alternator stripped down… and housing cleaned… Primed in some U-POL #8 Followed by a coat of silver….Very happy with how it came out….
