EQUIPMENT
All-steel torsionally stiffened shell, rubber-padded bumpers, side rails, front fully retracting windows, front quarter lights, front hinged windows to rear, safety glass windscreen, revolution counter, trip recorder, clock, cooling water thermometer, instrument lighting intensity control, fresh air heater, cigar lighter, battery and oil pressure warning lights, reinforced horn. EXTERIOR
Introduced as a compact, shortened version of BMW’s existing Neue Klasse Sedans, the ’02’ Series was named so in relation to the number of doors the cars had. This stunning 1802 model is the desirable and highly sought after ‘Round Light’ model and features the exceptionally rare electric sunroof fitted as a factory option. Finished in vibrant Inka Orange (code 022), this wonderfully period colour looks absolutely fantastic, helped by the brilliant uniform polished finish to the paintwork. The trim sections, rubbers and chromework are incredible and virtually unmarked with only light hairline scratches to the rear bumper worthy of mention. The underside remains clean but undressed in order to retain the cars true honesty. Original features such as the 1802 rear badges, BMW stamped fuel cap, optional Hella halogen driving lamps and even the ultra-rare stamped ‘02’ Series sunroof deflector will delight the avid BMW aficionado. A superb example of a model deep-seated in classic BMW history.
INTERIOR
The functional interior of this cockpit is clearly designed to suit the driver and highlights BMW’s visionary accomplishments which helped cement the makers place as a prestige marque. The body contoured seats are very comfortable and only the driver’s seat is showing wear to the base, remarkable considering the original coverings remain fitted. The headlining and full carpeting are clean and intact and the dashboard has no cracks whatsoever. All switchgear and functions operate with precision including the optional push button radio. Remaining precisely as BMW intended, this beautifully preserved and unspoilt interior is certain to impress.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The technically advanced and civilised 4-cylinder 4-stroke inline engine with triple hemispherical swirl action combustion chambers produces 90bhp, enough to propel the car from 0-62 in 11.8 seconds and acheive top speed of 103mph. The spotless engine bay proudly displays original panel stampings, plates and stickers. Even the often damaged or removed under bonnet insulations panels are unsullied. The gearbox is an all synchromesh 4-speed unit with smooth and direct action, a sheer joy operate.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Still sitting on the standard 4 ½ J x 13 H2 pressed steel wheels with the original untarnished chrome hubs caps, the classic look is upheld and suits the car perfectly. Matching quality Fulda 165/80 R13 tyres have excellent tread remaining and the spare wheel is housed in the very clean boot area alongside the original jack and often misplaced tool roll. Dual-circuit brakes incorporating 240mm front discs and 230mm rear drums feel positive in all traffic conditions to install complete confidence. Advanced features such as automatic pad wear compensation further emphasise BMW’s forward thinking.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 15th March 1973, this exceptional example comes complete with a large history file containing important documentation such as an original Fahrzeugbrief, the German equivalent of a V5 document, as well as all paperwork and DVLA approval letters relating to import to the UK in June 2015. Furthermore, the BMW plastic wallet contains the handbooks and dealership material.
A large binder containing invoices is accompanied by a report from respected German marque specialists Heinz Dittmann. The car comes with two sets of keys and an original sales brochure to complete the history file. KGF Classic Cars are proud to present this very rare 1802 example whereby the next appreciative owner will marvel in the condition and appeal of this very special car.
