I'm just annoyed the rattle can etch primer has turned out to be useless! name and shame ! Cant remember the make, ill check when I'm back at the unit. Was cheap but all my local factors had at the time. I did key the steel (could have been more thorough) and I did panel wipe it, but the paint just pulled off in places.

The can I still have was hycote.
It wasnt that can though but sure it must have been hycote too. It may have been upol but there stuff is normally ok.
Anyhow, black looked a bit better today and I can borrow a polisher so all will be well. I repaired all the sections of pulled off blue and its looking alot more sorted.
Painted the bonnet too and ordered a windscreen seal.
All thats holding me up now is finding some non setting sealer for the screen rubber, finding the correct edge seal for the pop top ( the rubber section sits off at 45° and I can only find top seal or side seal), finding some 15x20mm foam rubber hollow D section and getting about 2' of wing beading.
Also had absolutely no luck finding a dash vent. Anyone breaking a CF?

Great work. Will the grille be black as per your avatar pic? Yes, will be satin though so as much as I'm dying to do it now, ill flat and polish the van first. Painted the pop top tonight and it came out lovely. Flat, smooth, glossy. don't think it even needs mopping let alone flatting. Makes the fact it didnt go on well on the van even more annoying.

Its all polished, has come up quite nice considering it wad painted outside! Putting it back together which is always the good bit. Had to make new door handle gaskets. So I made them in red I like it (many wont). Adds a subtle dash of brightness. Looks pink in the pic, but there red.

Have a look at Woolies for the roof seal - or maybe one of the VW suppliers might have something suitable.

I found one company that did the roof seal but only in 50m rolls.
Ive ordered one off ebay that looks like it will do the trick.
Only issues left to overcome now are the soor seals (ill have to try and rebuild mine or use generic tat) and the fact ive lost the well nuts for the front indicators.
Could also do with some number plate lights but mine will do for now, a wing mirror arm and the dash vent.
None of its vital at the moment though.
Oh, and the temp gauge and fuel gauge still don't work properly.

Forgive the mess! I cant decide, I always planned to paint the grills satin black as standard but I also like it blue. If blue, id paint the headlight surrounds blue too. Opinions?

I kinda like the blue grille-black lamp surrounds if I'm honest, bit of OE, bit of custom. I think a big slab of satin on the front might ruin it a bit if you ask me. Looks amazing though. Good work.

Thats what I'm wondering, if satin on the front will take away too much of the blue and make the front look too 'heavy'.
However, whenever ive seen cf's without the grill painted I always thought it looked unfinished and it had lost some of ots character.
I guess I can decide later.
Anyone else got an opinion on it?
