clearing out more stuff from the garage today and came across this medal in a box of parts, which i clearly remember liberating from the dashboard of a scrapped Hyundai when i worked in a garage/breakers yard back in the early 00's interestingly its struck by Birmingham mint, and number 0187 of, well who knows? Anyway I did some googling and found.. well not a lot really, other then it was a special edition Pony or Stellar from 1988, (though oddly i recall the car it came from being a later model, must be remembering wrongly) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HYUNDAI-PONY-STELLAR-Olympic-Gold-Silver-Medal-1988-Ltd-Edn-UK-Mkt-brochure-/221754128562Got me thinking about the many limited edition manufacturers used to do in the 80s and 90s, often sporting related, like this fiat panda www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Rare-Fiat-Panda-750-Italia-90-ltd-edition-Reported-only-3-in-country-/271924859710?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4ffc133eaI Clearly remember seeing euro 96 badged Vauxhalls in dealerships (i'm not a sport fan at all btw)but seems there are no pictures online of them, and who can forget the Roland Garros Peugeot's, with that great colour scheme and interior still hanker after a 106 or 205 version quite a lot were just half baked marketing exercises, usually just a set of badges slapped on a car and a few goodies thrown in, and most have been forgotten by now, [saw one of these golfs lately, in black, feel old as i remember them being released] Manufacturers don't seem to do so much of it these days, possibly because everything big car manufacturers do has become such srs bzns! lately.... Anyway lets see some, and any pics of those gold/silver medal Hyundai would be nice, wonder if any still exist..

Yeh I bought my Son a 106 Garros, just as a 'run around' from a mate who owns a garage & had taken it as a part x. Bloody horrendous interior, it had white leather seats & a bright day glow sort of gear knob. Obviously all designed to look a bit tennis court ish. Who ever bought one new & thought it looked good needed therapy

I remember those, not seen one in ages though, don't recall the advert though, i do remember the Key largo/key west 106's which i wanted as a kid, mainly because of the colors.. which don't look nearly as nice in person as it turned out, plus they were basically just poverty spec 1.1's with a badge on the dashboard and back ahaha

You make a very good point. Manufacturers seemed to inject fresh interest by adding some options, graphics and a special editon badge back then.
I had a 1990 Vauxhall Nova Diamond in Electric Blue, and really can't find a good photo of one now. Metallic paint, alloy wheels, electric windows, Blaupunkt stereo, sunroof, sunstripe windscreen. Doesn't seem such an exotic spec today.

Bright lured yellow, yellow gear knob, multi colour seat belts, multi coloured seats.

I doubt the VW Polo Harlequin was anything to do with the rugby club, possibly a bad acid trip.

I doubt the VW Polo Harlequin was anything to do with the rugby club, possibly a bad acid trip. There were quite a few versions of the Jeans beetle, most common in uk was the 70's one with blacked out trim etc. i do remember seeing one running about when daily driven beetles were still a common sight Thinking about it Vw made dozens of special edition beetles in the 70s, there was a entire website dedicated to it somewhere as far as the harlequin goes, from what i remember it was originally a car done for an advert/show that got a bunch of interest so they made some, the US got a mk3 golf version, and there was a Mexican beetle one in the 90s too (oddly i remember seeing a beetle in very similar style running around Aberdeen when i was a kid, long before the polo even existed.. owner probably had replaced wings and doors, then decided to make it a theme as rear quarters were different colours from roof etc)

I had Equipe in my head but that was an Orion i think. There was the travesty known as the MkVl Escort Mexico as well, just a few stickers and fog lamps to try and shift some basic LX's.

I had forgotten about those.. there was also the mk5 escort harrier as well, black with Gold stripes, cleaner at place i worked once had one (i didn't know about the original mk2 escort harrier then) My parents had a very late Mk6 escort 'equip', on a x or y plate was a runout model i think, as the focus had been out for a while by then. had rather nice 7 spoke rs type wheels and all the toys,

Those Harriers didn't look too bad really,i think they were a Scotland only dealer special edition. The Mk2 Harriers looked great, they were a 1600 Sport with some 4 spoke alloys, graphics and some trim bits from memory, definitely one of the better specials though. There were 3 Mk2 specials all named after birds, the Harrier, the Goldcrest and the Linnet,i had a Linnet for a while until it caught fire while i was driving it in the middle of York !
There was the Capri Cabaret,Cortina Carousel and Crusader and the Fiesta Firefly as well. Ford also brought back the 1600E model for a special run of Orions built by Tickford.
