I need some under bonnet protection on the spider - theres an array of circlips, oil cap & HT lead clip, that are only mm's from the underside of the bonnet. If I lift the engine (or anyone else does ......... garage / MOT etc...) or even slam the bonnet closed, I pose a high risk of high pointing the bonnet. My garage who just re-built & fitted the gearbox just did that as well & had to get a dent specialist in to remove them.
its n ot the 1st time its happened - I did it on my previous bonnet (before a front end smash) just by jacking up the sump by a bit to get some clearence so I could slide under the car (its low).........stupid move I know !!!!
I need some kind of adhesive pad under the bonnet to protect it.
went on ebay, cant see anything.
need something like a heat resistant dynamat, thats self adhesive & can cover an area about 600x150mm. Anyone got an ideas or suggestions.

Anything you put on there will reduce your clearance even further Better to re-oirientate hose clips etc, relocate filler neck to rear of cam cover or fit a flush fit cap assy Or A big notice saying "Pop the bonnet before jacking" somewhere very prominent ;D What engine is it BTW ? Got any pics of the underbonnet

That stuff with the link posted to looks like it wont cope with heat. here's the engine bay (minus bonnet); Its the areas in red that are causing me issues. I have already rotated the hose clip, bent over the faston connectors on the dipstick, & the filler cap cant be moved.

Was it factory like that or is this a conversion/different motor ? Has it got the correct Engine mounts and gearbox mounts fitted ? Are you missing any spacers from the gearbox mounting as that will rotate the front of the engine up I`d be looking at cutting off the Filler cap and moving it to the space at the rear on the RH Bank, weld a plate over it, and do the same for the breather outlet. Plug leads could be routed alongside the inlet trunking, dipstick handle can be shortened.... Id check mounts first though ;D

Might seem drastic, but would the easiest thing not be to lower the engine by, say, 5mm if there is clearance underneath?
Don't know what your mounts are like, but on some cars I've worked on, the mounts that bolt to the engine have a large threaded stud that lowers into a slot in the chassis mount, then have a nut tightened on. In that case, the slot in the chassis could be made deeper, allowing the engine to sit lower. Gearbox could be lowered to match with spacers if needed?
Just a thought....
Aaron.
