I've had a hankering for one of these for ages, always liked them and I am very local, however I can't see how much you want and I really shouldn't buy another car!
However I do posses a compression tester, and I'm sure I could pop around one evening after work if you wanted to run a test on it? Gillingham isn't exactly huge, so wherever you are I probably drive past you on a regular basis.

Change,or at least clean and re-gap the plugs,I have one of these old 190;s,they really overfuel at times, can't see a piston or ring just letting go tbh, they are built properly, either way good luck pal.

Right, so I finally got round to doing a compression test today, and the result makes me sad. 1,3 and 4 were all the same but cylinder 2 showed no compression at all, and made a different sound to the others, pouring a little oil into the plug hole made no difference. I'm no mechanic so really don't know what's wrong with the old girl. I may be a little optimistic but I'd let her go for about £500 my eyes are watering as I'd only had the new bits of exhaust fitted last month! A couple more bad points I've not mentioned before:- the heater motor doesn't work on any setting, and the handbrake does nothing at all. I't would be a shame to break it, but it might be worth more in parts than as a whole. The front is above, so here is the rear:-

Any interest at £400 before I slap it on ebay? I can get pictures of specific areas if needed, viewings welcome any morning this week.

If you break it I'm interested in the front bumper!

Would be a shame to break... and a lovely colour. Shame I have no space or money!

I put it on eBay for a few days, no real interest, so I think I'm going to have to break it (The front bumper is a bit scuffed though on the corners). Unless somebody turns up at my door this weekend I'll drive it to the Kent countryside and take it to bits.

Good good good! Engines are cheap enough and relatively easy to swap on these! Id help out if you were a tad nearer...

A mechanic had a look at this yesterday everything top end looked ok, so he suggested it was a problem down below, which was going to need the head off for a proper look, but it was too costly for me so it's back up for sale again. Before I turn to ebay tonight I'll try it one last time here for £275 - spares or repairs, less than I paid for the exhaust a month or so ago I can't promise it will get you home, I've driven it about 5 miles since it went kaput. Thanks. Some more recent pictures can be found here:- s262.photobucket.com/user/gezzard/library/VW%20Polo?sort=3&page=1And the VW Polo there is for sale too, no MOT 1.4 auto, £110 !!!

New (S/H) engines are peanuts - and not too bad to fit!
