The axle on my Cortina MK3 Estate , the nose "nods", that is at low speed 5 up to 15mph the nose ( what the prop bolts too) rises up to the floor pan then drops towards the ground by about 2" to 3". I've fitted a Pug diesel & R380 box, the angles of both flanges are correct to each other. the axle does have adjustment & I've moved the angle of the prop flange both ways, but still the same. Some one did suggest that the Cortina four bar does have bad geometry from the factory? Any suggestions? thanks

Could it be down to the bushes being a bit too soft ? I know that certain aftermarket bushes for Volvos aren't anywhere near as stiff as the originals. I remember my Dads Cortina jiggling about at the back when he bumped down a curb outside our house !

There are two OE type rear suspension bushes for Cortina - saloon & estate. The saloon has holes whereas estate are solid. I'd check it has the correct solid estate types - are they are also an "upgrade" for saloons These are for different parts of the suspension but show the "void" type compared to solid.

Hi, Plus if they're the bushes with the voids they have to be in the right orientation, unfortunately I can't remember what that is now.

I would think the voids would need to be 1 & 6 o'clock, 3 & 9 being under push/pull.....

They may look ok but still be soft, try to get a pry bar in to force the axle to move or with handbrake on get someone to push' lift the car from the back as you watch them.

The nose of the diff moves up and down as the suspension rises and falls, it's due to the design of the unequal top and bottom arms, soft bushes will make this worse ? Solid bushes where fitted to cars with H/D suspension, they are not estate sepecific so the chances are they are voided in there but check as estates were more likely to have H/D suspension than a saloon. Is the corty lowerd ? is it deffo hitting the floor as they do knock from the rear U/J if the angles get to accute and it sounds like it's hitting the floor when they are very low? obv if there's whitness marks on the trans tunnel it is hitting and that's allways soft or ripped bushes, it doesn't do it normaly. diff angle at rest

Thanks for that, I'm sure the angles are set correctly, I'll check the bushes for being firm....
