Echo Bouncer's comments. Had my 2000/W208 clk55 daily for 2.5 years now. Feels faster in a straightline than Golf Rs 335d/i and many other current fast cars- independent reviews show faster acceleration than Mercedes-Benz figures. Cheapish to buy, and if bought right with trans' fluid changes and managed rust, will only rarely throw up big bills, and rarer still over £500. AMG std exhaust is perfect- silent on light throttle at 70, growls like a pride of lions on full throttle. I replaced secondary cats and enjoy the extra noise but miss the quiet cruising. Only cheap car I've had that both men and ladies love. Vivid acceleration, sporting enough on b roads, relaxing and stylish on an evening out. And it's an old AMG- useable retro chic doesn't get much better.

Echo the above. My commuter is a W210 E55 - it's pretty much unbeatable when you consider how cheap they are at the moment. I imagine they'll climb at some point in the future and it'll be one of those cars that's looked back on and people are surprised at how cheap they got.

I'm considering another fast German but this is tempting me.
However, I need to ask. Realistically what is your MPG like in town, on a run and a mixture of the two. Yes I know it's an AMG but it'll be nice to compare it to another German I am considering.

I'll be honest, I'm very pleasantly surprised at just how good this is on fuel. I don't drive it hard (too scared...!) but 'making substantial progress' averages mid to low 20s, and quite a bit more on a steady motorway run. I reckon a nun could see 30 mpg quite easily

I hope this sticks around a bit till my house move goes through You moved yet? I've had quite a bit of interest, and some offers of P/Xs on some properly tasty cars but after nearly 5000 views it is still parked outside. Some have even offered cash, which I have accepted, only for them to then disappear off the face of the planet Basically, I've recently gone self employed as a freelance panel beater and I just can't get all of my gear in an E55. I need an estate. And as much as I love this car it is just not big enough for my needs. So come on, ladies and gents of these hallowed pages, help out a fellow classic nut/ petrolhead. Help me earn a living. Treat yourself. Scare yourself. Own a piece of Super Saloon royalty. Laugh at people who think a BMW M5 is better (it's not, trust me). You NEED a V8 in your life, you know you do. You cannot and will not go faster in an unmodified car for less cash. Please, please, BUY MY CAR!!!

Would a very nice facelift E430 estate work as p/x? 159k, massive history, just had B service and sitting on monoblocs.

Jimnifiz, it's done.
For the rest of the world, this is a last Bank Holiday Bump before it finds itself on Ebay. I love the car dearly, it makes me giggle every time I drive it. It's surprisingly cheap(ish) to run, handles well and sounds fantastic. Please remember, this is a 16 year-old W210 Mercedes. It's not perfect. It's had paint. There is probably filler somewhere. It'll probably need more at some point. It's a 16 year-old W210 Mercedes. But, it is also the cheapest W210 E55 out there. It has a decent MOT. It's a daily driver. Turn up, pay cash, drive it's wheels off to your hearts content. It's like a dog. My old Clio 182 was like a Jack Russell. Full-on all the time. Slightly mad but massively entertaining. This Mercedes is more like a GSD. Lovely to look at, great to have around, but give it a poke and it'll tear your head off! These AMGs are getting popular. They can only go up in value. The thinking man's M5. Just better...no, really! It's so cheap it's silly. Buy it. Now. Right now. You know you want to!

I was going to comment in detail but my offer of £2k still stands having seen the car.

I'm assuming this is a right dog then for an offer of £2k coming in as a bump. Further advertising will see this sold for proper money. And yes these will be going up, I believe we will all be kicking our selves in the not so distant future where finding a mediocre example of 1 these for under £6k will laughable!

I was interested in this and have only just seen the replies and it's put me off from going further with my enquiry. The advert states that this doesn't have the usual W210 rust issues, but then later you say that it has had paint and there is probably filler etc. So is it that it actually does have the rust issues, but they have been remedied? It looks like a lovely car, but some more details on the above would be appreciated How many views in person has it had? Can anyone comment on issues not apparent from the advert?

I was going to comment in detail but my offer of £2k still stands having seen the car. Great. Now everybody assumes my car is a rusty, lashed up pile of junk. Thank you for that. It's a 16 year-old Mercedes W210. It's had paintwork. Show me one that hasn't! This is NOT a £2000 car!
