Hello retro rides.
I bought this last year and have been doing a fair bit of work on it since then, However, I also have a 1967 cooper that needs work and i've been putting it off for some time now and all the while I am ploughing time and money into this my cooper is falling further and further into a state of disrepair. So after a few weeks of thought I have decided that the best option is to sell this mini to give me the time I need for my Cooper.
1980 Rolling Mini Shell.
The mini is a 1980 City E, I have the numberplates, chassis tags and the V5. This shell still has the Chassis number stamped in the return of the scuttle which obviously matches that on the V5, a rare thing these days, sadly.
The mini is rust free, all of the welding has been done, there is only one small hole which will be repaired prior to the cars sale. The boot floor is solid, as are the floors, scuttle is solid, roof is sound and straight with no sunroof, Quarter panels are good, door steps are good, go at this with a screwdriver or magnet as long as you want, you wont poke the screwdriver through and your magnet wont fall off! Don't get me wrong this shell is by no means mint and a potential show stopper but it is solid and you will not have any issues with rust. Areas have been patched, in some areas they are some what crude but they do the job. The mini will come with a 2 piece flip front, not mint, has previously been damaged but does the job for the time being. The doors are complete and the outer skins seem good, the inner frames have had repairs but I have seen far worse. The boot lid once again seems good. The rear arches are also tubbed.
The shell has a multipoint weld in 38mm CDS cage complete with door bars, harness bar, seat mounts and it has had the steering column integrated into the cage, all gusseted and seems to be in top order, I am not sure what competitive certifications this cage complies to, all I wanted to use the car for was novice track days, the ring and some fast road. This was fitted by a certified company, not a chap in a shed with some scaffold bars.
The car will come rolling with very good front and rear subframes. The car has a brand new set of heavy duty lower arms and front tie rods. It will come with disc hubs, new groved and drilled 8.4" discs and a set of newly refurbished brake calipers. The radius arms are newly refurbished with good bearings and does not suffer with that horrible crab/camber issue from collapsed or worn bearings and pins. Both subframes are in excellent condition and worth a few bob on their own.
The car has a full carbon fibre curley dashboard and centre console, it has been used, it does show signs of use but when new these did command nearly £500.
The steering column is fitted with a boss for a Quick Relese steering wheel boss that is included in the sale.
The shell comes complete with glass, brand new window seals, petrol tank (modified so that the filler is in the boot cavity rather than poking out through the body) It also comes with a huge box of spares, pedal box, wiper set up, spare 998cc engine block and components, the car will also come with a tonne of parts both new and used, headlights, brake cylinders, lock sets and many other parts. The car will come rolling on a set of steel 12" wheels.
Here are a few photos.
Small hole will be repaired prior to sale.
All in all, in my opinion, this is an excellent canvas for a pretty cool car, all of the hard work has been done, the welding has been done, the cage is there, all the panels fit as they should, the subframs are sound, it just requires finishing off and pulling together. I am quite annoyed that I will not be doing it myself, as this really is in the final stages, but the more time I spend on this the longer it is going to take for me to get started on my other one, and its already taken far too long.
I always find it hard to price minis as they have gone up and down so much over the last ten years. Based on what is currently on ebay for stupid money I have settled at.
£1100.
Come around with £1000 and that will be good with me. No less. I may be able to offer recovery at cost within 50miles with discussion. The car is currently in a storage unit, I will aim to have it recovered home next weekend and with this more photos will be posted and requests can be taken.
