That three axis inertial measurement device reminded me of another Data logging effort of mine trying to use a small pendulum on a low friction rotary potentiometer as an accelerometer in the Sprite. Once I got the right degree of damping sorted out I got to the line at the Pod - dropped the clutch...... and broke a half shaft....but from the data logger I knew it was 25 milliseconds later!! The best time on street tyres was a 12.9/110mph ...and like you, I still have the car as well! When you were racing, I was running Comp Altered so in a different pit area (ECA74 Vicious Trait and DCA4 Muscle Sprout, 1976 - 1985). Got that particular T-Shirt. First use of slicks ripped one of my home made sliding spline half shafts in two and the shock ripped the flywheel off! Similar performance from totally different engine setups. Now Muscle Sprout rings a bell, must look through my albums of the time and see if I have any photos.

Unfortunately, I can only find this photo of Muscle Sprout. It was a rather boring colour so I guess I ignored it :-)

On the subject of data logging, what about some LVDTs on your suspension? They’ll let you monitor suspension travel, which means they’ll tell you what effect your aero tweaks have on downforce ie total, front/rear balance etc.

However, that is not to say it won't happen in the future if we think there is a performance advantage to be gained. No mod is ruled out in the quest for speed :-)

Phil, I have just read the article in British V8 about your cars, good one :-)
With regard to the 1987 Street Machine Rover V8 Street Rover Championship in which you were the runner-up, was the winner, by any chance, a white Morris Minor driven by Nick Mann?

Hi Alan I have checked my records and I was runner up in the Group 2 class in 1988 (and 1989) and the winner was Malcolm Petrie in a Marcos. (I was 4th in 1986 and 1987) Nick Mann never raced in the Rover Championship as his car was turbocharged and the rules for the first few years didn't allow turbocharging (possibly to keep Nick from dominating??)

Rebookmarked as you seem to have dropped off my feed. I don't comment much but I do read everything.

Another case of too fast to race :-) Ooohhh, he's too fast, let's ban him rather than raise our own game :-)

Well it was a bit more subtle than a ban - the rules were formulated to keep the costs reasonable and encourage as many as possible "normal street" RV8 powered cars...it just so happened that turbos were not allowed so Nick's car would need to be deturboed to race. He did run in the Street Racer Championship I believe. The Rover Championship did split into Group 1 and Group 2 (Pro Rover and Street Rover) after two years and the Pro Rovers went from 12 second ETs to 8second ETs over an 8 year period....so their game did indeed raise!

Maybe not a ban as such, but rules can be written to exclude certain cars :-) I can understand it, when one particular car is so much faster than the rest of the field you are racing for second and this can become disheartening. Nick used to drive to the Street Championships, win and drive home, not a trailer in sight! I would define that as a street car :-) They have now, but they were scared of Nick back then :-) Reminds me of the 'too fast to race' Lotus 7s back in the day.

Reminds me of the 'too fast to race' Lotus 7s back in the day.[/quote] Ahhh - Jim Whiting raced a Caterham 7 and regularly thrashed the American V8 "Muscle Cars" on the strip and they were Not Happy! He started racing in Junior Modified with an A40 (1275cc) "Silent Knight" when I was racing with my Junior Modified 970cc "Muscle Sprout". When I last heard from him he had a big Caterham Agency in the South. Sorry if this is a bit of a thread diversion!

Mustang pulls away from the mini on the straight only for the mini to catch up in the corners.

Elan leaving DC Electronics after completion of wiring. Once I have connected everything up, bolted everything down and tightened everything up, programmed the PDM and loaded a basic MAP on to the ECU, we can look at starting the engine. And before anyone asks, no onlookers will be welcome :-)

Against the likes of Steve Green I guess? Blimey, Malta is a long way to go to get a car built, no one local? Is he getting his Anglia/Pop rebuilt or a new ride?

He currently runs a Mk1 Escort with a BIG turbo'd C20LET in it - runs low 8's (Or at least it did before it went out to Malta) Justin Ladmu is rebuilding it in time for Malta's 1st drag event of 2019, then it'll get shipped back as far as I know. It was supposed to be a 1yr max but as usual plans change and its been nearer 3!

He seems to like Ford bodies but not the engines :-) I can relate to the build time slippage :-)
