Just being entirely silly - referring to the pinholes in the laquer in post 866. Typically my brain goes in odd directions. :-) However, once you start running down the slippery slope labelled weight reduction it is difficult to control your speed and easy to go too fast and crash. I have to contantly apply the brake :-) I am sure it is neverending - and potentially problematic - i recall seeing a documentary which referenced Colin Chapman adding lightness to the point that his race cars were dangerous to the drivers. On a lighter note every time I view this thread I always here the Beatles singing "now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall." Great work.

The last time I had this much fun looking at pictures it had tube.com at the end of it, Ace build mate a real forerunner.

Are they glued in once profiled ? Does the stiffening bar pick up on the suspension at the front then? Still coming on well- list getting smaller or keep finding little things to add ? James

James Hi James All 5 (two on bar and three on carbon) are glued on. Not this bar. It runs between the rollbars that run down the A pillars and is also connected to the central spine of the chassis. The car is ready for wiring but, as you say, keep finding jobs not thought of but the list must be geting shorter.

Making heat shields to fit into spaces that aren't really there is a PITA. Had to make a mock up first then make the real one. This one shields the alternator and wastegate actuator from exhaust and turbo heat. The hot side will be covered, as all shields will be, with ZircoFlex III.

Shiny ! Booked in for wiring yet - give a nice date to aim for ? Nice work as always, one question if I may, what are you doing about paint work ? My vote is nothing at all but it counts for nothing ! Thanks for the updates James

Yup, I am taking the car to DC Electronics on Friday so they can see what they are up against, sort out what they will do and give me a price.
I have considered the rat look :-) However, it will probably end up satin grey or black. Safe, unassuming, colours.

No question is daft if you don't know the answer.

As race fire suits are heavy, uncomfortable and expensive, I decided to make my own out of aluminium and ZircoFlex. To that end I have started on the leg sections. Based on medieval armour, it will be light and articulated, allowing enough movement to be able to get in and out of car with very little help.

After a trial fitting I have decided that making my own firesuit isn't going to work. However, in order not to waste the parts already made I have repurposed them into exhaust shields. A little bit of VHT wrinkle paint and you wouldn't know their original purpose. Not the best wrinkling in the world but it has tidied them up a tad. I haven't wrinkled the shield sections that are under the exhaust.
