Hi Guys
I have just had a DCOE fitted to my other car a 74 roadster, now originally the car was fitted with the standard carbs and sounded perfect with only small tapet noise. Now i have had this fittered and tuned professionally the ticking noise seems to be louder.
my first thought was the inlet not being tight enough but this seems fint so does the exhaust its a new manifold both in and out, i was just wondering is this normal i know with a dcoe there is no padding between the carb and exhaust manifold due to no heat shield, could this of been dampering the noise
just a bit worrying as the end sounded fine before this was installed the place where i got it tuned are classic car tuners so i would of thought that this would of been checked and they would of told me if there was an issue
many thanks
nathan

Are you sure it's not just the sound of the Weber? The jets make a lot of noise - bit like a taping noise.
Does the taping continue if you put the clutch in?

Well - if it goes when you put the clutch in, it could either be the clutch release bearing or the idle gear! If it doesn't then it could be a whole host of things! But as it's just appeared after fitting the DCOE I would suggest that it's just the jets making a lot of noise - quite normal, mine are really noisey! If it was something serious then the guys who tuned it would have said something anyway.

sounds about right then mate as it was as quiet as a mouse well for a B series and she has been fine since the rebuild only 500 miles ago.
right will check the clutch but this was replaced 2k ago seems as though it is the dcoe

You'll get used to the noise. What filter have you got on it?

I gather you've got some ram pipes on at the moment then? You can keep those and get some of the mesh covers for the end to stop things getting sucked in! The problem with just ram pipes is that you can get to much air in when the engines cold.
I use a K&N with 1.5 inch ram pipes inside. I've always been advised not to use foam filters, but a lot of other people will say different.
Are you running a choke on it?

I had a pair of 40's on a ford 1760 crossflow in a Westfield. I ran trumpets with mesh covers even though the carbs were very close to the ground in that. No problems at all. manual choke as well. The induction noise was fantastic! Lots of chirping and clattering. It's just the carbs. Enjoy!
