Sunday 14th Feb was the 29th Picnic at Hanging Rock. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) one day shows in Australia (and therefore the Southern Hemisphere because let’s face it, there isn’t much else down here).
I live 15 mins away, and go along each year not just because it is my local show organised by my local car club, but also because it does a great job of being a show for everyone and showcases the massive variety in Australian car culture. It is purely a “turn up, pay your $20 entry fee and park roughly where the men in orange vests tell you” event and as such attracts a huge variety of machines. Yes, there are a lot of resto’d Fords and Holdens on big rims, but there are also a lot of European and Japanese stuff, and as is normal with a show in Australia there is always something unique and unexpected.
This year I’ll post by manufacturer or country of origin, whatever best fits the pic, or maybe just at random. I’ll see how I go.
Hopefully you’ll see something you like. If you don’t then I suggest you review whether or not you should be a member of this site. Oh, and these are all proper retro cars, nothing over 25 years old (or thereabouts, I think they bent the rules a bit in some cases).
Holden first
2 GTS – a coupe and a more door
SS Commodore
Lovely wagon (estate) – which belongs to a bloke at work
Monaro and wagon enjoying the sunshine
HDT Commodore
Sandman Ute
VP HSV
And now 3 examples of the Aussie love for big rims
Big
Bigger
Biggest
And now for the end of the Holdens
Ford now
Ratty pick up
Stang and its 4 door Australian cousin
The Granada from the car and bike show was here causing confusion again
Because it looks like a little one of these
Almost but not quite Main Force Patrol
Lovely Capri Ghia
Super clean GT Falcon (possibly, the place is riddled with replicas)
Speaking of which (they never made a GT ute)
And another, possibly not a GT though, I really don’t know
Now, Australian Chargers – I do like these
Subtle (and one of my favourite cars there)
And not so subtle
