Great read. The mk1 you see with the capri is mine. The capri is my brothers. The kit is a phase 2 rs kit. My wife has a hatchback with the phase 1 kit. I chose the phase to kit after the restoration as when we attend local shows it creates interest rather than just 2 similar mondeos parked together DSC_1581 by Garry Speller, on Flickr

Hi mate nice to see another citrine/hendy alive and well, I've set up a Facebook page for them mk1 mondeo citrine. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your rebuild, here's a pic of my citrine Thanks for checking out the thread! Ill have a look for your Facebook group later on and join up! Definitely do it! If you've got something a bit unusual, its always worth putting the time and effort in to preserve it for the future if nothing else! RE Hendy specials, to my knowledge, as the oldest Ford dealer in the UK, they often imported slightly more left-field cars from Ford (low numbers of course). They also were known to take basic spec cars and add extras to them (not generally available from book) in order to promote or highlight a certain model. i don't know of any other specific Hendy models that stand out aside from the MK1 Mondeos but if i can glean an info on this in the future ill put it on here. Great read. The mk1 you see with the capri is mine. The capri is my brothers. The kit is a phase 2 rs kit. My wife has a hatchback with the phase 1 kit. Thanks for checking out the rebuild & the info on yours / the wife's cars. Is SECC still up & running? Ive tried to get on there a few times but i think I'm still not verified!!!!

And thanks for the info on Hendy too, would be interesting to find more. I will start a progress thread when I have anything to report.

Hello guys! Not much to report on the Mondeo project right now, however that is set to change over the next few weeks!
I am on the hunt for a set of mega cheapo wheels to use on the car during the next stage of the resto (they can be steels, alloys, curbed, hand sprayed, ugly...whatever - the cheaper the better!)
The PCD is 4x108 and the centre bore is 63.4. Does anyone have a set of wheels with legal tyres that they'd be prepared to sell? I will also stick a post in the parts wanted section.
Hope to bring you a more interesting update soon.

Hi just found this thread very interesting as I used to work for Hendy body in Bournemouth back in the day, our boss used to have one of these Rsi's as a company car and I got the job of taking it upto Southampton for its first service and driving back in Brian Hendys cosworth scorpio, it could well have been this car! Unfortunately I don't remember if it was a saloon or hatchback but I do remember it got a lot of looks and was certainly better than rubbing down filler all day! Good luck with it mate glad to see it survives! Mike.

Love this. Nice to see one of these rare cars being saved.
I had a MK1 Mondeo with the RS kit about ten years ago, was a great car. Also had a MK2 Ghia X and a MK3 Mondeo ST220. Do love a Mondeo; extremely easy to live with and a remarkably good drive.

It may well have been this car as the first owner was Ford (when the car was used for promo etc) and it could well have been passed on as a company car afterwards. They are indeed very good to drive, even by modern standards & these days the MK1 (and arguably some tidy MK2s) enjoy something of a retro, 'haven't seen one of those for ages' following! Stay posted for updates

Is that yours? I saw it at Oulton a while back Citrine Yellow Ford Mondeo M77RJS - photo by Retro-MotoringLove this thread. I worked at the local Ford dealer when these were new, Saturday/Summer job as a valeter. I remember a few Citrine Mondeos coming through, eye-searing! One of the mechanics bought one and kept it mint, always stood out a mile in the car park

I love these, my dad used to work in what was then Gordon Ford in Colwyn Bay just before these came out, but he was always back in there chatting with old friends, remember taking one of these out for a test drive and mum really really wanted it, but dad wouldn't let her get rid of the Sapphire Cossie she had at the time. Can't remember the last time I saw one in the flesh now

Judging by the amount of Mk1s NOT on ebay they are rarer than cortinas nowdays I still see plenty of sierras and cortinas about on the road in N London, lots of Mk2 mondeos but not many Mk1s so i think they have reached the rare part being a classic? I must admit if mine were RWD it would be perfect, everything other than the drive train is way better than the sierra it replaced although TBH i prefer the twink over the zetec based purely on driving feel, i'm not a rev head i like easy low down power hense my TD (modded a bit) as to looks i prefer them with the RS kit so the RSi is the peak of perfection when it comes to mondeos (for me). I missed a new boxed Fr fog kit on ebay tother week, £33 for the lot! all new and boxed, switch, loom even bulbs all new and unused, dam it Any more pics of the 2 together ? cheers

Yep see more sierras than early mondys. Still it's a much better car despite being FWD.

Thought i'd better put something up on here to keep the thread alive! The restoration continues and as mentioned previously, several big steps have been made behind the scenes (which will all be revealed soon)...for now here's whats going on ( warning: this is a boring update!): The Mondeo has been undergoing its re-comissioning / MOT work so that any 'would-be' issues can be found and sorted prior to the final, prettier stages of the rebuild. To this end the 16" 'Cossie-likes' had to go. They were curbed and had pretty seriously engrained brake dust issues, but mainly, they held air about as well as a fishing net...now i did say something serious is coming and I'm sure those of you who have studied this thread will be able to guess what....but for the mean-time, i thought i would get the Hendy rolling on some standard MK1 steels (of course legal & air tight) for use during MOT and any bodyshop work. strangely I think they're alright!!! Reminder of the outgoing 'Cossie-likes': Looking a bit like an early 00's banger car on the MK1 steels (mud splatter from various test drives): In addition to the wheels, i have also said a fond goodbye to the faded, peeling (but oh so 90's) Clifford rear window sticker and [at last], the Yellow speedo cluster! So apologies for the minuscule, boring update....keep the faith - things will get spiced up soon!

It's nice to know that this car is in the hands of someone who obviously loves it and is going to bring it back to factory fresh goodness very soon! Superb...

Well i'm chuffed to say that the RSi now has an MOT for the first time in 4 years & unbelievably she flew through, just picking up 1 single advisory for degraded number plates (replacements ready and waiting to be fitted after paint)
Pics to follow!
