EQUIPMENT
Chrome side mouldings with black centre flash, chrome grille, protective chrome strips on engine compartment lid, wheel trim discs, zone toughened windscreen, twin-tone horn, lockable glove compartment, heater blower, padded sun visors, opening backlight, efficient sound proofing, body undersealing, self-parking wipers, four stowage pockets, swivelling front quarter light, door operated interior light. Dealer accessories; Safety belts, wing mirrors, 8-Track stereo, aerial.
EXTERIOR
This versatile top of the range Super Imp is finished in factory optional Honey Gold Metallic, (code 167). This colour scheme was used to boast the luxury specification of this model on all the period sales literature and still looks fabulous today receiving much awe from curious onlookers. All chrome trim is simply stunning and undamaged aside from very light pitting visible only upon very close scrutiny. The unique side mouldings, front and rear aluminium panels and badges are in excellent order. Various touch up marks can be seen applied by conscientious owners and purists will enjoy seeing sight of all factory stickers and identification plates so often lost with restored cars. Even the supplying dealer rear window sticker remains and metal raised digit number plates. A testament to Hillman’s original contender for the Mini.
INTERIOR
The wonderment of this stunning car certainly continues once inside the cabin which is remarkably spacious and practical. The interior is absolutely original and the factory seats trimmed in Black vinyl are simply divine, commensurate with the cars amazing low miles. The unique contoured rear seats only fitted to the Super model are as new. The matching door cards with trim up to glass level and garnish rails are perfect, as is the spotless headlining. The luxury factory carpeting is very clean and unworn and fantastic period accessories such as the Ross 8-Track stereo and PYE radio remain in situ and fully operational as fitted and documented by the supplying dealer when new. Four 8-Track cassettes are included. Even the choke instruction and tyre pressure stickers remain on the front screen. The front luggage compartment has all the protective black card moulds virtually undamaged. An enthusiasts and collectors delight.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the 875cc four cylinder overhead camshaft unit with extensive use of lightweight aluminium alloy die-castings, the rear engine positioning offers balanced weight distribution and immense fun handling characteristics. Developing 42bhp at 5000rpm and 55.6Ib.ft torque at 2800rpm, performance is surprisingly spirited. The engine bay is very clean and waxoyl has been applied to the inner wings. Warning stickers can be seen but are damaged. The four speed gearbox with synchromesh on all forward gears is light, effortless and very positive throughout the range.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original pressed steel wheels are finished in off-white complimented by chrome wheel trims fitted only to the Super model. Matching new 155 R12 radial tyres have just been fitted and the spare wheel is correctly housed in the front luggage compartment retained by the rubber strap. The Girling braking system incorporates 8in diameter drums and brings the car up to a straight and steady halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 12 December 1973 by Hillman Main Agents, Westwood & Clark Ltd of Clacton-on-Sea to the first of just two former keepers, Mr David Anthony Oliver. The new car invoice reveals the specification chosen and a total price paid of £958.73. Incredibly the 8-Track stereo was more expensive than the metallic paint finish! In his care for 29 years and used sparingly until taken off the road in 1989. Owned by two further enthusiasts since 2002 for shows and pleasure the vehicle has now covered 29,631 miles. The original owners handbook, spare keys, sales brochure and Westwood & Clark plastic wallet are present. A very rare opportunity to acquire surely one of the best surviving Imp’s in existence, not to be missed.
MOT February 2017, HPI clear, Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
