Hey all in a few months I'm looking at getting a pre 60s American pickup, don't really want a mint show car with a standard v8 etc so I'm looking at making it more "dailyable".
Want something with more modern running gear (ideally on air ride) and a large turbo diesel, well, just because really.
Looking at the 6bt etc but what other large diesels are around for mega torque?! Ideally not mega mega bucks to buy but interested what people might suggest.
Seen the old om606 etc but might be able small for such a large pickup?

Turbo or supercharge the V8 building it to run on straight LPG, be a lot less trouble than fitting a computer controlled diesel and would probably work out as economical to run daily
There's the Perkins Diesel V8 as well, heavy, torquey, turbo able but not economical

The om606 is more than man enough for what you want to do, I've got a modded one making 557ftlb... Are you planning a manual or auto gearbox?

Probably after an auto tbh, just find them more practical and easy in a daily. It's not a track car or anything!

In that case get yourself a merc e300 turbo diesel, fit the engine, all the wiring and autobox in the pickup and enjoy.

Be careful with something like that as not enough points to retain original identity so DVLA would deem it as Q reg with MOT / VED applicable.

Better to put pick-up body on a M Class chassis.
