Excellent stuff again Dave. Gets a little boring just saying that each time but I can't think of anything else to say that sums it up!

Excellent stuff again Dave. Gets a little boring just saying that each time but I can't think of anything else to say that sums it up! John Cheers John, i know what you mean mate, it´s the same when i´m doing an update when you´re showing another bit of rust that needs welding That colour does look good, i´d planned repainting the Taunus red as it´s the original colour and would be easier to do but i do like that combination of green and matt black. Not sure about the wheels though.... I´ve got the side panel finally welded in yesterday, ground all the welds back and have hidden all my bodges under a layer of lead ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/010_zpsr1ah3vu8.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/003_zpsedetqclc.jpg) Now it takes me ages to get filler looking half decent so you can imagine how long it takes me to sand back lead..... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/011_zpskwmpjtvo.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/010_zpslrmn2feq.jpg?t=1461393675) but i´m getting there slowly.... cheers, Dave

Cheers guys, much appreciated. Sorry i haven´t been able to update the thread recently, our intermittant internet problem seems to be getting worse so bear with me, i´ll update as often as it lets me..... I´ve finished off welding the rear end. The valance is in and looking good..... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/013_zpsycj4gcuu.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/012_zpsqedppzwp.jpg) I´ve lead loaded the corners as that´ll be the first bit that starts rusting again once i get it back on the road ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/016_zpspz8hv7p6.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/015_zpsqyb6cqis.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/017_zpsnnkuy1ok.jpg) and after cleaning off all the welds i´ve given it a coat of primer. ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/019_zps8y2gappc.jpg) It´ll need a bit of finishing but it fits a treat so happy with that. With the rear end still jacked up i´ve been playing around with the tailgate. I won´t be needing the rear wiper or washer so i need to lose one or two holes...... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/001_zpsuhjjecak.jpg) the top hole is for the nozzle, the one on the left is for the wiper arm and god knows what the bottom two are for but they´re gone now...... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/002_zpsnqsie6qe.jpg) which after a bit of a clean up leaves me with this..... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/005_zpsjekuddfd.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/007_zpsyniypfiw.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/008_zpsvk9y3uja.jpg) cheers, Dave

Awesome build! Brings back lots of memories, my Dad had sooo many cortina's when I was a kid. A silver Mk3 I went through the windscreen of (pre seat belt laws) when I was 10. A 4 door saloon and then quite a few estates. He had the first 2.3 ghia estate to roll off the line, I remember we went down to Dagenham to pick it up, it was metallic brown, another 1st they said.
The Granada spoiler will fit, it was common in the 80's to see them missing off a Granada in south London, and mysteriously appear on a 'Tina.

Absolutley astounding build, love the way you blithely say so i cut up the pillars and remade them to fit, lol
know exactly what you mean about flatting down the leading, although last time i used was on my MK111 Zodiac,(in 1988 i think) it was a pain in the arris learning to lead load and my ratio was 3 sticks on the floor and one on the car, but perseverance is the key, well done on another excellent forward looking build !

Excellent work! Thoroughly enjoying watching this come together. I love the idea of painting it red. Tom Cheers Tom, i´ve been playing around with different colours but i think i´ll stay with the red. A great update Dave and well worth the wait! Its coming on really well - another vote for the stock (Radiant?) red here! Thanks mate. The colour code on the plate under the bonnet says R2, as it was first registerd in November 1981 i think that´ll be Cardinal red. As i need to buy the paint to respray it, it´d be nice to know if i´m right before i start spending any money. looking good as per normal mate. can not wait to see it all done Cheers mate ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Awesome build! When i was a kid back in the seventies nearly everyone on our estate had a Cortina, most of them were old and rusty and there was definately not a V6 amongst them. Nice to know the spoiler will fit mate, cheers. I was only guessing when i bought it. ]I suspect the original red will have been either Venetian or rosso red. The previous owner had knocked a dent into the wheelarch and the small patch of rust on the sill turned out to be a lot more so i knocked out the dent with my slide hammer, welded up the hole and smoothed it all out with some lead... ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/004_zpshyuwttxy.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/001_zpse9vwihpb.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/003_zps7f1ypsmy.jpg) and with that out of the way i gave the corner a skim of filler and have spray fillered the whole wing. ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/005_zps4ozxc5bt.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/007_zpsh9r5xr4c.jpg) Next job up is to refit the glas, bumper and trim and make sure it all fits. Cardinal red gets my vote though I might be a bit bias as it's the shade I'm painting my small tractor project in ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Cardinal red gets my vote.... Mine too mate, as it´ll save me loads of work, definately easier than changing the colour. Two toned (with the spoiler)? ![](http://i.imgur.com/E9foFmB.jpg) I think that´d work quite well on the estate, cheers for that. Definately worth thinking about, any idea what type of silver that is?. I´ve refitted the side windows to see if it all fits together and i can happily report that it does. They´re a bit tight to fit but i can trim back the new metal with the angle grinder once i´ve taken them out again. ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/021_zpsdoqzyzh3.jpg) ![](http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/oldbus64/Cortina/013_zpsjb1lmcjx.jpg) I refitted the trim just to see what it looks like and to check if it all lines up propely. The front one is off the two door and the rear one off the estate and once it´s been resprayed i think you won´t be able to tell that it left the factory in Genk as a saloon. I´ve been playing around with the idea of painting all the window surrounds matt black, pretty much like the Mk1 Fiestas or Capris. The masking tape in that last pic shows where the line will be going....more or less Cheers, Dave

I think that´d work quite well on the estate, cheers for that. Definately worth thinking about, any idea what type of silver that is? Strato Silver... The crusader colour combinations were: Cardinal red/Strato silver Crystal green/Strato silver Titan blue/Strato silver Rio brown/champagne gold Cortina mk5 colour/trim guide

Great progress, but I´m not convinced you should paint the d-pillars black, too. Just stop at that lower window corner. Edit: tested both based on rmads sketch: If you do the D-pillar black then the A needs doing as well, a la Range Rover 'Floating Roof'
