I'm shortly going to be upgrading the cam and cylinder heads on my Range Rover. Obviously I'll need all the bits like head set, head bolts, tappets, and for good measure a timing chain. I want to make sure that I'm putting good quality bits on but I don't want to over pay if I don't need to.
Any recommendations as to reputable brands of parts and best place to buy them?

Paddock for cheaper parts - not sure what brands good and whats not anymore though Real Steel for quality at a price - I've never had issues with their service but other people have.
Composite gasket set from ebay, will find out which one, seems really good quality at the best price I could find.
Don't forget you might need to shim the pedestals to get valve clearances correct - it doesn't tell you that in the manuals.

I'm aware of the possible need for shims. I'm getting the Kent Cams H180. Definitely some good prices on eBay but without knowing what brand the parts are, I'm a little reluctant without a recommendation.

I just had a Piper cam for my Pinto that came via Foxwood Boring and Grinding (Foxwood Diesels) in Chesterfield, they did a very good price (cheaper than anywhere on the web) might be worth trying a Piper one if they do the grind that you need.
Will post up the part number of RV8 gasket set we had - just did 10 bolt heads onto a 3.5 bottom end

You could try Real Steel. They've been around for donkeys years and know all V8's (UK & US) inside and out. www.realsteel.co.uk/section1.pdfI wouldn't use RPi. Self proclaimed experts but I and others I know have had a lot of trouble with them.

Use ARP to bolt the heads, do not buy cheap.

For the camshaft I would look at the American offers after researching them or Newman Cams. I know that in the CVH world only the Newman grinds seem to last any length of time ; some Kent and Piper cams seem to wear prematurely now with the grind appearing to be a complete lottery. Yes I know the CVH was known for not being great on camshafts but so was the RV8 .

There's a guy on RangeRovers.net who swears by Crower cams and lifters. Seems to rebuild a fair few v8s as well.
