Hello all.
I bought a Vauxhall magnum off here just before xmas as something to tinker with. I race bangers and got talked into doing a classic banger meeting in it instead. I've started loosing interest in the bangers lately and decided against racing the magnum but I have already started selling a few parts off it. It has basically already paid for itself so I thought I'd do something a bit silly with it.
I've been into zombie apocalypse/post apocalypse/mad max style vehicles for a while and as I enjoy a bit of fabrication I thought I'd have a go a making my own. I have done a bit of drifting in the past so I though it might be fun to build it as a drift car. I'm thinking external roll cage, with front and rear nudge bars, I sold the bonnet and wings so was thinking I'd fabricate a new front end. It won't be a daily driver but I would like it road legal if possible so was wondering how far I can go before it won't pass an mot. There are a few rat look cars about and some 4x4's have external roll cages with big winch bumpers etc so it must be doable.
My other question is regarding the axles and chassis, I have a frontera in the yard that is pretty much stripped but I was thinking about using the back axle off it as I imagine it would be pretty tough and will widen and lift the back end. It is the 2.2 petrol, not sure of the year. I thought I could even drop the magnum on the frontera chassis but I'd like to keep the magnum reg really. Would the frontera axle make it totally unusable as a drift car or could this work?
I know it probably sounds like a daft project but I'll enjoy doing it, I'm not after a seriously competitive drift car, just a bit of fun.
