I've come to the decision that it's time to thin out my fleet of cars and collection of parts, I'm just not gonna get the time to do all the stuff I want as my work situation has changed and I now have limited free time to spend in the workshop.....☹️
With that in mind, the first car to suffer the axe is this early E34. Bought from a friend in the trade last April, it was used for daily duties for a while, and also took me to the Gathering last year... It's a 520i auto, non SE spec, so pretty basic. It does have electric windows front and rear, and an electric sunroof, all of which work perfectly. The car is Atlantis Blau in colour, which is a rare sight now.... The paint is not in great shape to be fair, most panels have some paint or panel damage. I had plans for this car, including a repaint in the original colour. The plastic hinge for the petrol flap has broken, a common E34 fault. It's currently held with a cable tie repair, which has held for the last 6 months.
When I first got the car the seats were threadbare in the way only an '80's BMW can. I found some decent condition seats which were light grey and dyed them with black fabric spray dye. This actually came out a kind of blue grey colour, which looks pretty good to be honest.... The central locking works on three of the doors only, but the one it doesn't work on doesn't open from the outside anyway as the lug on the inside of the handle is broken off!!! Also, the drivers door lock is somewhat temperamental, so I usually just open the passenger side and lean across!
Mechanically, the car starts first time, and drives okay for a somewhat tired old thing. The engine is quite tappity, but I was gonna replace it with a 2.5litre unit from an E36 that I have in the unit. This engine is available as well, along with wirin loom, ecu and chip for key.
There is a tow are fitted, with twin electrics which all works. The cars fog light is inop, I think it's prob the bulb holder as Its a common fault. The sills look pretty good, which is normally a weak point on these cars....
It's sat on cut springs, sits quite low. Three out of four shocks are weeping oil, so these definitely need replacement....
It's currently fitted with wheels from an E60 BMW, these are not included in the price. The car will come on some E39 alloys I have. Will put pics of them up tomorrow when I've been to the workshop tonight. The E60 wheels may be available by separate negotiation....
There's no MOT on the car at the moment, it ran out in November, and I haven't had chance to put it in for one, or do any work on it. No idea what it will fail on other than the aforementioned shocks and fog light.
Pm me for any other details you need, don't really want to sell but needs must I'm afraid!!
P. S struggling to upload photos from my iPad..... For some reason I can't drop the images as I normally do.... Will have a go at it tomorrow...... You can see the car in my thread 'BMW E34 aka The Slug'
