Reliant Robin Mk2, bright red
1992
85,000ish
Full MOT until 19th May
(pics soon!)
Birmingham
Price: Don't want to ask any money really, interested in swaps for motorcycle related stuff, MZs Ideally! maybe tools, garage equipment, car stuff, maybe a 125 for the gf, sailing/boat stuff? Anything, try me. Most important for me is that the car goes to someone who wants to get it back on the road. I'm really fond of it and want to make sure it is looked after, just don't have the time energy or money to do so myself.
The story:
Started a new job with a long commute, crashed the bike on ice, pussied out, bought a reliant. I absolutely loved driving it and was doing 150 miles a day flying (sort of) up and down the M1. Its like a go kart and will sit at 70mph if your ear drums can handle it and the engine felt fun around town. I loved it but the previous owner had removed the thermostat to hide overheating problems which lead to the rear 2 cylinders warping so the engine is shot. I've tried skimming the head, tried all sorts but after spending every spare day Ive had for the last year trying to keep it running so I could get to work I gave up after another AA ride home before christmas, did my car test and bought a car. the car needs a new engine and box fitting. these can be had and tend to be 300-600 for something running. Too rich for me but Reliants are getting more valuable so it still makes sense financially. Everything else on the car is pretty good. Ontop of everything, landlord has banned 'mechanical' activity so need to reduce the density of vehicles on the drive way!
I have done:
New propshaft with good bearings (old shaft included but needs new bearings)
New front wheel bearing (set of rears plus brake shoes included new unfitted)
New radiator (comes with 2 or 3 in varying conditions)
New tyres
Loads of now irrelevant engine stuff!
New battery with 3 year guarantee
awesome 70s 10 inch Cosmic alloys with nearly new Falken tyres (test fitted but rub a bit so need spacers ideally)
The car could be back on the road in a weekend with a bit of money thrown at it and be driving soon! Fitting an engine is easy, goes in underneath the car so front end up on an engine hoist, engine on a trolley jack and 4 rubber mounts and youre good. Fitting ancillaries takes an hour then add fluids and drive. Finding a good engine is the challenge and expensive bit.
Has full V5 in my name and currently on SORN
Loads of spares included:
Firstly, a Rialto shell, (same shape except front end) with good doors (straight swap) full glass (straight swap) wiring loom, loads of stuff. Good chassis as well. It does not have an engine, back axle/springs/shocks, front a frame. Feel free to take the whole thing or take what you want and Ill scrap the rest.
Also included:
Full engine ancilaries, several alternators, 3 dizzys,. carb, manifolds, belt, rads, 6 wheels, steering box, front shock, probably loads more.
If anyone wants a reliant project and wouldn't mind keeping me in the loop with how it's going then get in touch It could make an awesome car. The alloys look ace as well and the car gets so much attention. Had people stop in the middle of the road to take photos, hanging out of windows on the motorway. I don't like the attention but people love seeing the car. Hopefully it can go back to providing someone with transport and providing amusement to the masses.
