Oof, i'm liking this! Does the silvertop intake fit the blacktop without much hastle? I'm fitting a blacktop to my '3i at the moment and not a fan of the plastic intakes. Keep up the good work, really clean motor! Cheers! Silver top manifold goes straight on yeah it's the only one you can really use as the later plastic ones (mondeo/focus etc.) don't fit behind the engine.

Hi all, Not done much to the Escort for a while (read, its not misbehaved for a while) so though the thread might be due an update. Changed the tyres from 185/65/r14's to 175/60/r14's: Sits much nicer now in my opinion and no rubbing from the rears over the big speedbumps = double win. 2x Michelin's a Bridgestone and a Kumho all with masses of tread 60 quid fitted. Part worn's are my friends. Everything going great until my mate pulled out behind me on a main road, I slammed on when someone cut me up and "crack" the rear bumper was introduced to said mates focus. Estate/Orion rear bumpers (I believe they're the same) are like hens teeth to get hold of and so are mucho expensive when you do find one. Luckily mine was simply cracked along its length and didn't look like too much fuss to repair. My frind was very sorry about it all and offered to buy me another bumper, We settled for him paying for repair supplies. It needed painting anyway so I decided to have a stab at it: Originally I'd decided the plan was, bead of superglue across the crack from the outside just to hold it in place, then fibreglass from behind for strength. Turns out the outer skin isn't accessible from behind the bumper (should've realised that before I started) So it became superglue, then sand back and skim over with filler. I know filler isn't flexible but then neither is this bumper obviously! Anyway, I had it all primer up and ready to flat back when the idea to try and knock the broken stud out of the back with a hammer came to me. I'm sure you can guess what happened next. Que an alternative adhesive: I'd had a few bottles of this stuff in the shed for a while. For those who aren't familiar with it, its designed for bonding plastic trunking and PVC pipe together e.g drainpipes. Turns out its considerably more flexible than superglue and seems to play quite nicely with 80's Ford bumper plastic. After endless wet sanding it got a coat or two of satin black: Bumper is currently sat in the yard awaiting a final wet sand and paint tomorrow. Will post pic's when its done. Hopefully. A.J

Finally got the bumper back in place. Looks much better in black IMO. Can't wait to get the front one done along with the bonnet vents and centre caps I have for it. On the down side, I did snap off one of the two studs(out of four)that were remaining when I took the bumper off. For those who've never had the pleasure, Ford bumper studs are made of the softest metal known to man. As a result its now held on with 3 screws, 1 nut and a tie wrap. At least it wont fall off. A.J

This is cool mate! Got given a set of those Citroen steels the other day with good tyres, might try them on my estate later. Rob. Cheers mate! Yours looks pretty special to be honest, about to check it out! Look into a set of plastic spiggot rings, PSA centre bore is slightly larger than Ford so they help with centering the wheels right. Also, opt for narrower tyres or they will rub the rear arches. I'm running 175/55/14's with a 30mm drop and they're fine. Couple of pic's from yesterday: Went ASDA with a mate and when we came out there was a guy taking pictures of our cars! Got talking to him and he was loving the old Ford's. He has a facebook page for his photography :Motorg/\smo Finally had time to give it a proper wash and polish. Just need to paint the grey bits black and keep tarting it up. A.J

Cheers for the tip mate, where did you get your spigot rings from? What colour are you going to do the bonnet vents?

Cheers for the tip mate, where did you get your spigot rings from? What colour are you going to do the bonnet vents? Off a well known auction site bud. Can't remember the seller, mine are bright orange for some reason. I'll be painting the bonnet vents to match the bumpers so satin black, along with the centre caps in hopefully getting off my mate.
