Hi all, been a member on here for a while now and never got round to starting a proper thread so here goes.
My daily driver:
Bit of back story:
I've had Fords since I learned to drive but only really got into retro stuff recently. When I was a kid I always wanted a Capri and later a Mk2 Fiesta and it was the latter that I decided to go for.
Once I'd decided I was going for a Mk2 I found this on Ebay and so began a 320 mile round trip to collect it:
Roughly 6 months later it was looking like this:
At the time the above pic was taken I discovered that the Escort had come up for sale. I already knew the car as I knew the owner Dave and with 45 minutes of him advertising it i'd promised him a deposit.
Here's how she looked when I had her trailered home:
As you can see it was almost compete but did require some love to make it a reliable(ish) daily. There was no carb, inlet, fuel pump, alternator, battery, useable wheels etc. with the car but with the help of Dave who raided his garage for me I managed to get the old 1.6 CVH in it running well enough to drive around. As it sat it was way too low for my needs so it was decided that it would be getting some slightly bigger springs (the day of the M.O.T it dragged its exhaust clamps all the way there and back).
It was actually a 3 door Mk3 estate that made me decide on something retro in the first place, me and a couple of mates were watching one fly round Silverstone at Ford Fair 2014 and decided there and then it was time for something interesting.
Said mates spannering on it:
Sat with the Fiesta prior to getting rid:
In the dreaded M.O.T station:
Obligatory McDonald's to celebrate it passing (with mates Fiesta):
And the last pic I have of it before new wheels and less lows:
Since then its been blown up, Zetec'd, raised and made more reliable after knackered drive shafts, warped discs, ill fitting wheels, steering column bushes, engine mounts and even a bit of welding (I can hear you gasping in shock) and is now "almost" a car again.
Current spec is:
2 litre black top Zetec from a Focus
Standard late Escort inlet and ECU (standard injection)
5 speed Ib5 gearbox with poly mounts
XR3I abs drive shafts and hubs
Puma 5 speed gear linkage
240mm Vented discs
30mm Apex springs on standard shocks
14" Peugeot steelies refurbed in steel wheel silver with 185 60 14 cheapo part worns
Will update with recent pic's when I actually take some.
Ta,
A.J
