Me and a friend have a plan to fly to Italy (on an aeroplane, mind), buy some Panda 4x4's and drive them home.
How easy is this? Once the cars are in the UK, we can trailer them home if need be. Have any of you done something similar?
I'm hoping it's as simple as buying a car with a valid 'revisione', aquiring insurance and hitting the road. I'm sure it's nowhere near as simple as this though.
And guidance would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks

A lot of European countries consfiscate the number plates when the car is sold for export.
You can insure the car in its chassis number here in the uk, possibly make up temporary plates showing the chassis number?
Or get a friendly Italian to agree you can post him the plates back when you get home!

There was an article in the January Classic Cars magazine about somebody buying a Renault 5 Turbo (the mid-engined one) in Italy and driving it back I'm sure they covered the legalities etc.

My understanding is that it is not a practical option.
Unless an Italian registered car is sold to a new owner who has an Italian address, then the registration plates have to be returned to the licensing authority. I believe it is then possible, for a substantial amount, to obtain temporary export plates which will require you to log your journey direct to the Italian border and complete the trip within 48 hours. You still have to complete the journey through France or wherever on what is then a dubiously-registered car...
I have imported two cars from Italy over the years, and resorted to transporting them as the only practical option.
