I've managed to get hold of a new old stock front panel for my 130RS project.
It's covered in light surface rust (I'm guessing they were oiled from new), so I want to get this off and etch prime it.
Apart from scotchbright and rust converter, any other easy methods?
Cheers guys.

I was recommended Deb altrans to remove and neutralise rust, haven't got around to getting or using any so can't comment on how effective it is

I used a devil wheel in the end (twisted knot wire wheel in the grinder).
Took about 10 minutes, watch your skin though!

I've been de-rusting pedal kart wheels in vinegar. It doesn't just make it fall off but softens it so you can easily remove it with scotchbrite or similar. Only thing I found is that it's difficult to stop it going rusty again straight away. Tried washing in the sink with very hot water then dried quickly. It still went a bit brown again though.

It's tricky to spray anything in this weather. As soon as I had bare steel, I panel wiped it, warmed with a blow lamp and etch primed. Combination of a blow lamp, panel heater, etch primer and top coat, I got the panel protected for now.

Silicone carbide injected plastic mesh discs on a grinder , shouldn't damage the steel, but will take any surface corrosion and paint off ready to layer some lovely expoxy primer on and paint

These You can get em cheap enough, far better than sanding discs, don't clog or wear as quickly.
