So I've decided to put my carlton up for sale. Its a very good car its just To good/rare for my purposes and it deserves a better home. To me its such a cool car and a very rare one at that but I wanted an old motor that I wouldn't worry about getting knocked about and this ones too good for that. So I find myself wanting to
Keep it as nice as possible and that's not what I wanted.
Since I've had the car I've spent around 250+ quid on it. There was a strong smell of fuel which turned out to be perrished breather pipes on the tank. So the tank was removed and i dropped it off for a flush out, pressure test and repaint at my local specialist. The tank is in excellent condition. All hoses replaced and new jubillees fitted. The fuel pump assembly was also refurbished whilst the tank was off and new heavy duty av mounts fitted.
As the car has spent a lot of time in dry storage and only done short journeys the exhaust baffles had collapsed so I fitted a new centre section and back box with all new rubbers clamps and
Gasket. I've also got new disks, pads and flexis to go on the rear as the originals Are fairly worn now. I will hopefully fit these before the sale.
mechanicaly the car is pretty spot on but the car has ALOT of
Dings , scrapes and imperfections from being an old giffers motor in the past but as you can see in the photos cleans up well with no clearcoat peel. The rear passengers door has a long crease. Structurally no rot at all. The rear arches are rusty but In Carlton terms are pretty good.central locking deadlock seems to play up sometimes.
The heater seems to muck about and let's a musky smell out which I think may be a weep of coolant onto the matrix as its had a new matrix fitted recently so I'm Assuming that someones maybe disturbed something. It something I'd like to fix but havnt got around to doing. Headliner has sagged. Fuel gauge reads a quarter less than is in the tank. I learnt this when I took the tank out! Has miss match keys. No service history.
I've spotted today a little drip of coolant from the bottom of the
Rad which I will investigate this weekend.
That's all the niggles I can think of.
It does Have a lot of good points tho.
Low miles
Original Phillips tape deck
Blue bumpers
A Previous owner also had loads done
All fluids changed and full service
Rear springs
Drop links
Tie rods
Steering link
Timing belt and waterpump
New battery
Etc etc a bill for £500+ and then he never drove it :S
No structural rot at all , the floors and inners are perfect. Rear arches are starting to rust and getting flaky. theres also two small plates been welded on the rear chassis rails at some point.
35k miles
D reg and believed to be possibly the only d reg mk3 gl in the uk.
I'll be sad to see her go and i realise that replacing a very good car with possibly a worse condition car makes no logical sense but I know there's someone out there will apreciate this car more than me and can give this car the love it deserves and
