In the FIA papers on the Strato's Upgrades to 4 pots front and rear And on the Alpine - also found it interesting to se a 4 stud hub and wheel upgrade as well. On the Littons they went to a full AP racing set up - both front and rear uprights have the facility for dual callipers so its possible to go four pots or Two or Six all round on vents with a separate handbrake calliper. All depends on pocket depth.

Yep really interesting to compare it with the A110. I'm using the same calipers and discs as you are on the front of my Dav, and following accepted Davrian factory wisdom (probably influenced in reality by the very documents you've so kindly posted up), had been planning to run exactly the same setup on the rear, including the vents - possibly with a limiting valve. For the past several months I've been on a thankless mission trying to adapt some alloy AP calipers instead. So thinking of using the Sierra/Granada calipers again I thought I'd see how things were done on the Strat. Very surprising that the rears were sized so much smaller than the fronts. Possibly a twitchyness / wheelbase thing?

Hadn't seen your post before I replied.
Pretty big upgrade on the Grp. 4 big brakes for the Strat, pad surface area ends up being quite similar front to rear also.

..... Very surprising that the rears were sized so much smaller than the fronts. Possibly a twitchyness / wheelbase thing? Just sized as they came off the donor it was / is just a kit car perfectly adequate for a road car typically in the early days with a 2.0L four pot - anyone using for competition would throw that bit of the donor in the bin.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was referring to the original Strat (Stradale?) sizes on the homogation docs.
The Grp.4 spec is much closer to what you would think 'might' be there.
There is a small weight penalty with the Sierra calipers, but the piston / pad sizes are difficult to replicate in a reliable and cost effective setup.

16grit I think you are probably right that it could well be that less bias to the rear as would be usual on a MR due to the short wheelbase on the "production" car - The brake bias corrected for the Group 4 to give the legendary instability back for competition.

The Granada brakes appear the same as Sierra XR4x4 And I cannot quite work out how they have arrived at the 76 and 48 figures for the Stratos

I refer to mine as Escort RS Turbo Series 2 calipers. That's only because that was the first match I got on the casting numbers on them. 260 x 23 discs. There's a smaller 'family' to suit the 240mm discs with smaller pistons. With the larger wheels on your car the larger cosworth single piston front 4x4 calipers and larger 280ish mm discs might work also.

And I cannot quite work out how they have arrived at the 76 and 48 figures for the Stratos Pad length 76.5 x height 56 x two pads on that disc = 85.68... so more, but perhaps there is an allowance for actual swept friction area and not just backplate size ??

I think I have a set of 2WD Sierra Cosworth 4 pots and discs sitting on the G27 - may just need drilling for 5 x 112 - But that moves the bias even further forward. They are coming off the G27 as they are far too heavy.

I have had it turning over this morning and we have oil movement and only one water leak- looks like someone has over tightened the rad fan switch in the rad header tank in the past and cracked the joint so its weeping - I may be able to repair that but its unlikely to be a simple job. I have checked the timing and that seems in order and we have compression which I will test after its run for a short while.
After lunch I will sort out some wiring for an ignition switch and squirt some go juice down each carb choke and see if we get some noise

Short. A very few wires later we have noise - fired up straight away! The simplicity of 6 chokes and clockwork sparks - Running rich enough to make your eyes water and no idea where the timing is but its running - even with 320 duration cams! Sounds right - just loud enough without being too loud - full power may be another matter..... Need to make a piston stop and set a TDC mark. No photo's, no video - just too darn busy smiling.... will try and get some by the end of the week.

You just moved in? We moved in last October, grandparent duties called us and we are still finding our feet locally. I’ve only had the Escort out a handful of times this year as it’s ready for an engine swap, it sounds like a dachshund with thimbles on its nipples running down a cobbled street.

I will keep an ear out - sounds quite distinctive........ Do say hello if you are passing. Been for a brew at Sleap or Loton yet?
