Cheers Bud, its moving along. Not many pictures today because just how many are needed for an 1100 x 550 bulkhead. Thankfully these panels were small enough to be done inside as it has been rather damp today. Completed - I would say nearly as many hours as rivets but that would be a wild exaggeration... I didn't use that many rivets !

Before it gets used/dirty etc would it be worth sticking some of that dense foam around the opening of the access panel. If you're potentially gonna be leaning in there to faff with engine stuff it'll make it a bit more forgiving if you sit up too quick and brain yourself on the crossbar.

The gap around the panel is about 1.5mm and will have some thin neoprene tape around it, and the flange on the panel, to seal it. There are little squares of it already there to centre the panel. It's a hand access panel and that's about it, you would not be trying to get your head through it. Fuel tank blocks off a large section of it coolant pipes run down there plus the exhaust etc etc.

Love this thread, all the time spent making sure you knew you had it right at the beginning are really paying off now. Cheers, it's going reasonably well to plan at the moment. Decided to have a look at the fuel tanks today and see if I can drop another tank in for some extra capacity. Roughly works out to 18L which is quite useful. I will rework the N/S tank to a better shape and at the same time add a little more capacity to bring it up from the current 36L toward 42L for a combined 60L - not quite the 80L of the original but pretty good.

Extra fuel capacity is always great in my opinion. I've been rather enjoying the Jag's 90l tank coupled with the diesel meaning I've only had to fill it up once a month!
Are the tanks at the front or rear on these Littons?

Bonnet on for trying to sort out the radiator mounting and the inner guards. Not going to be very easy as its now officially too bloody cramped. Its going to have to live outside soon which means if you thought it had been a damp summer thus far you will not have seen anything like it - more records for rain fall will be set when it touches down on the drive, guaranteed.

Proof if proof needed that fuel capacity involves a little (lot of) creativity - picture unashamedly nabbed from the LB website. I see more fuel tank origami in my future in the quest to find 60L.

One way to make the original concept look completely safe, is to park it in front of a Lockheed Starfighter...
Starfighters claimed the lives of many of their pilots.
Fairly recently, and hopefully the last fatality, in one that was converted to a Land Speed racer.
I knew a guy who was chosen to be a pilot in one ( for the Dutch airforce).
He raced cars, but that plane was too deadly for his taste.
He opted to be a cook, instead...

The F-104's record was always a bit marginal, but it didn't become known as the Widowmaker until it was bought by the West German Air force. They then modified it for the ground-attack role, a role to which it was ill suited at best, and as a result the attrition rate among German pilots was fearsome. I don't remember the number but it was something like 30% of the West German airframes were lost due to "accidents".
One crashed near here in the 60's, and my elderly neighbour can still remember how a local farmer handed the pilots helmeted head in at rhe local police station, rather irate at the mess dumped on his field.
Coming back to the Stratos, it's fascinating to see the styling concept from which the actual car evolved.
And I love the build. The thought, attention to detail, and the crisp quality of the workmanship is impressive.

I think the damp summer we've had is my fault... I've had the car on the driveway with a leaky windscreen rubber...

And many thanks for the kind comments, appreciated. legend - Looks like it's still sat in the corner slowly driving him mad with the amount of effort its needing to build. Why does that have a familiar ring to it. Enbloc - Don't let my mate know that, he thinks its down to him buying a Westfield. Busy week this week so not much time will be in the garage although I have started looking at the rad layout and it should fit without too much modification.

This BH weekend I WILL BE getting the radiator in - Some distractions such as Loton Park and the F1 GP will get in the way but the initial investigation as to where the rad will locate looks promising. The rad will actually be a little higher and further back than what I expected and it provides better clearance being further away from the pointy bit. Radiator should be able to be mounted from an alloy frame off of the old rad mounts. Tack and test in the morning.
