Another job to do was to have the steering box reconditioned. It was working fine, but it was leaking very badly...as I work in the industry, I have a wide choice of people to use for the job....so, off it came and I took it in to my reconditioner of choice Couple of days later I get a call to say they cant find a seal kit for it (no surpise!), but they can make something work.....another couple of days and its ready! So I picked it up, threw it back on the car and........ Nothing! No power assistance at all....so, its going back this week sometime...gutted I am! But, all was not lost, I got some floor painting done and my mate came through with these orignal style graphics they're a shortened version of the Turbo RS graphics, I took the turbo bit off, as its not one! The originals go over onto the door, but I didnt want that... As I've been a little grumpoy over the steering box, I stuck them on the car, cheered me up no end!

Well, the steering box saga continues! The original reconditioning company couldn't get the steering box to work, so I took it to another one....and another one.....and yet another one! They have all said it's a bizarre design and that they've never seen one with a design like it! Well, great! So, long story short, I've bought a secondhand steering box of Yahoo auctions Japan, which is on its way over as we speak! The steering box saga kind of killed my mojo a bit and I ignored the car for a month, until I received a small package from Japan.....they had been ordered just after the car landed and they had finally arrived.....not cheap either, but it's all about the details! Brand new wing RS badges to replace the very dead originals....Nissan UK said they could no longer be sourced....but www.amayama.com sourced them!

With all this renewed mojo, I started stripping the front of the car so I could paint the inner wings.....I'm used to German cars and I was expecting a million bolts and fixings, but it seems Japanese cars are way easier to pull apart and it was stripped in a couple of hours! Looks pretty good for a 30 year old And soon, the wings were treated and painted But, its not all good news....this hole begun as a small brown mark....apparently its a common place for rot on these, but is next to the cross member mounts And this one on the O/S inner wing So, a bit gutted, but it could be a lot worse! And, as it stands as of today

Lovely skyline you have there, out of interest is that a Toyota CROWN you were nearly tempted by on the first page?
Do you remember who was selling it and how much?
Cheers

Yes, it was a '66 CROWN, with a 1jz engine and 5 speed box fitted, it was for going through the auctions in Japan, back in August last year- I didn't buy it as my agents contact in Japan said the car was quite rough and had recently been painted You do see a fair few classics in the auction lists though....

The original steering box, having been "reconditioned" is scrap- no-one can get it to work, so another one was sourced from yahoo auctions japan....it cost a fair bit to ship it over here and it was a bit of a risk, due to the very vague description and terrible Google translation A few days later...... It's currently off at (another, better) reconditioners being tested-they're under instructions to only test it- if it works, they are not to touch it! Meanwhile, my mate is down there at the moment fixing the rust

It'll be good if it ever hits the road- its the most expensive car I've ever owned and its taking the most work! Yeah, steering box! its surprisingly basic, based on the Laurel of the time.....

Quick update- while she is nowhere near being finished, the Skyline is on the road! Finally got to a point where I'm happy that she's safe to use on the street.... Still need to refit some trim and the front spoiler, do the tracking and many other little jobs Picture taken at my local Tescos last night on a celebratory beer run!

Ha yeah, that video happened! That's the last time that the car worked! Shortly afterwards, it started running badly- only firing on 2 cylinders! Turns out it had been running lean and burnt the valves on 3 and 4....
But, the rings were also damaged, presumably as a result of running no air filters back in Japan....the engine is out and in pieces and it's generally in good shape, so parts have been sourced from possibly the only English speaking guy in the world who stocks parts for these and they've just arrived..... from Australia!
No pics at the moment, but I'll get some sorted and update soon!
