I try to get down the unit a few times a week and at the weekend, but being a husband, having to make sure the house isn't a shambles, and making sure the pets are fed, as well as doing the family visiting thing once it a while doesn't make things easy going. To me it's a hobby, it's something I do in my spare time, but I'm pretty lucky in that my wife has a fairly active social life too, so when she's doing Jive lessons, rehearsing for a play, or out with her thespian friends, I can don the overall and get something productive done, provided I've not got an IT exam to study for or some other such distraction. When do you work on yours? And how much is too much?, as it's a hobby, and because I'm fortunate in that I have workshop space and a decent sized drive, I try to have a few projects in stock, but only ever tend to work on one for periods at a time, last year I spent a bit of time doing my beetle, which I'm shelving until I can afford a roll cage and getting stand alone management, as well as swapping out for an 002 Transmission. I've also got a GS550 that I want to cafe racer, that's got as far as putting it at my house.. I'll move it to the workshop later. Once the van is done, I want to do her beetle, then do one of my other bikes, a little 2 stroke late 70's 100cc suzuki. At the house, there's a Mk2 GTI 8v that I keep toying with using as a daily once it's done and I managed to swap some modern toss for a B3 Passat, which I still don't know what I'll end up doing with.. sometimes I buy and sell before I do any work, it keeps the bills paid . I'd be interested, personally on knowing what the demographic is like amongst the guys and gals on here these days?, do you work on your own stuff, do you have a few on the go?, is it business and pleasure? are you like me and always have a few things on the go?

At home with mine. I'm again lucky enough to have a four car space driveway and a garage, plus use of my Mums drive/garage which is also big enough for three/four cars.
I usually get allowedone weekend day plus some evenings in the summer to work on my cars. Only got the two projects at the min though. A '91 XR2i and a '92 Corsa GSi

I'm lucky in that i have a garage at the bottom of the garden but with a works van, a caravan and the mrs car i only have room for one project at a time for now. being a husband and a farther of a 7 yearold its hard to get as much time as i would like so its a couple of hours at night if the wife is in and the odd weekend day if swmbo takes the real boss out for the day. a lot of it depends on mojo though, i seem to be able to find the time better when the mojo is flowing.

More than one project seems messy to me, i'd end up coming unstuck.. It's bad enough when i haven't been on it for a couple of weeks, and i'm a bit clumsy getting back into it again.

I don't think i've been in a projectless situation since the late 80's, nearly always worked on them at home, fettling in the garage and building in the driveway. Now more than ever I seem to have projects left right and centre, time has come to rent a unit and get some serious building done just to clear the decks for the new ones that are on the way... and they will be on the way. I currently have four Duttons, two projects and two driveable however as they are kits then they are never fully finished, there's always something that needs doing. With the awful wet weather last year things have fallen behind so definitely time to get some 'inside space' and a heater and pull my finger out.

For me it all started when a child and used to build several Airfix type kits at a time. Things have never changed and I have all kinds of projects - cars, bikes, house etc on the go all the time. I did try and get things "under control" with just one project at a time but that actually had a detrimental affect on my mental health. As long as I don't have too much money tied up in any one then several on the go works fine for me. For example, besides everyday Skoda and Smart I have some MOT type repairs needed on my Disco, engine transplant and other modifications to Marlin Roadster, full restoration planned on Mahindra, conversion of Yamaha quad to trike, adapting Jawa moped to electric power, restoration of 1960's RSW16 pushbike, revamp of 8'x4' folding flatbed trailer, as well as house, garden, garage and carport plans. Health issues make a big difference to what I can do and there can be months where I don't do anything as know mistakes will be made, I'll hurt myself or simply can't manage. During these, and other, times I plan - drawings, research, trawl internet, read and dream.

Since moving out of the parents place when I was 20. I've had something or other on the go. Before that it was on there drive which I got into tons of trouble for dropping oil or over spray on there cars etc. ..
Fast forward 6 years and moved house and built a garage thought I was the man back then. A drive big enough for about 12 cars and a garage. At that point it was mainly land rovers etc and then got into racing hotrods. Then tented a 3500 Sq ft unit with a mate and that's when the serious projects and car flipping started. But after 18 months that was ended as we had different views in what was classed as taking the pi $$ with other people's belongings.
So moved it back home. At this point I'd become quite heavily involved with racing land rovers. Bowler wildcat type stuff. So finished building the old car in a single Garage. Not an easy job trying to hoist a v8 into a landrover frame in a single build in garage.
Fast forward 2 more by years that cars sold and building a new one. However in that time I got married and had a wonderful daughter. Work has changed massively with me being more stressed each day so getting time to work on projects is now more of a motivational thing. However after a conversation with my Co-driver for next year he's kicked my back side into gear and it's full steam ahead.
It's nice having the garage at home as I can pop out for a cheeky hour here and there. Yet when I had the unit it was seen as being there 2 or 4 days a week. When in reality it was a Saturday and the odd night for an hour or 2. Where as at home it doesn't seem as bad as I'm still at home. Which makes sharing mummy and daddy duties a lot easier.

I've got a small but useable garage and the drive way running up to it will fit 3 cars
I class a project as something that's immobile for some time so I have two of them (Volvo 940 and the VW bay) And a running project is something that's never off the road for longer than a week due to mods or maintenance so I've got three of them
As for when I work on them I work shifts so I get random times of the day and rest days but I try to get out there and work on them whenever I can "money permitting"

My dream would be a basement workshop / big double garage. That way I could nip down in middle of the night (suffer with insomnia) to "play" with clean projects without having to get dressed

One car, always needs attention. I either work on it, or she has to walk home from work. Tough love.

Nowadays, I only get to play with cars at the weekend. My projects are usually full-on builds, so more than one at a time would be insanity. The projects are usually toys to entertain alongside the dailies. That keeps the pressure off.

I'd built a new exhaust manifold for my reliant and spent a few hours with s big machined block with sticky da pad to true the turbo flange by hand in the middle of the night in dressing gown and slippers
