I remember you and your car from when I met you at Brands one track day (was in white BMW e36 with big wing) - Little did I know then that I'd end up owning one!Gutted for your loss though, was a beautiful car. I have been keeping an eye out with you in mind as and when bits come up or I get notified of parts so will do, still find it amazing that it can just disappear.

No-one was ever going to get use out of that bootlid again. Quickest method is therefore the best method!
Massive fan of these cars, just got one myself, bookmarked and watching with interest!

Starting to think about improving the braking setup if I can, has anyone seen or got experience of any bolt-on upgrades? I've read up a bit on AE86 struts as they allow bigger diameter discs to be fitted, but where you get a set of those from is anyone's guess, no luck in my enquiries so far... Ideally I don't want to modify anything that can't be put back to standard hence cutting/welding the top mounts is out of the question.

Something I'm thinking about too. If I don't go for ae86 struts then I'll probably be making some adapters. Can't find a thing that's bolt-on for these - so far...

I put Corona XT130 struts on mine with T3 coil overs and camber plates and KYB shocks. These struts come as standard with larger discs and twin pot calipers and can be easily upgraded to larger vented discs and 4 pot calipers if required. This conversion is well documented on Australian website. The problem is trying to find the XT130 struts locally and I had to buy mine from Australia.
Best of luck with you project!

Sadly nothing major to report re progress on the car due to other projects (house) and logistics in its current location. Hoping for more of an update after the end of the month as I may have found a supplier of the AE86 parts I need. Fingers crossed.
In the meantime have been reading up as much as I can and keeping an eye out for parts, although one continually frustrating theme is that numerous threads lead to 1stgencelica.com... which you cannot register to... has anyone managed this? is on there? I've emailed the admin a couple of times but to no avail so should probably give up... although as with many things I don't give up too easily - particularly when there is likely to be a wealth of knowledge available to tap.

Can you not modify your original struts using weld on coilover parts?

I could but ideally I want an original set available should I need to ever put it back to stock. With the AE86 strut I get the flexibility of both options

A very brief update on the Celica as have been spending too much time on the other projects of late, one of which has required a lot more grey matter than intended! Mostly thanks to other peoples bodges - seemingly an all too familiar tale when it comes to my projects! MGB's are like onions... they have layers... So after that I decided I'd cheer myself up with some simple stripping of the front of the Celica ready for repairs... yeah right! Some seriously rusty bolts put up a bit of a fight but we got there eventually Alas on closer inspection more bodgery was apparent... yup, filler behind the headlights! So now to completely strip the front end and attack with a wire wheel.. hopefully something will be left at the end!

Wow, can't it's been over a month since I last updated this! What's been happening I hear you ask... well in truth not much due to life simply getting in the way, sadly also a bereavement on my wife's side of the family has meant car time has been very limited. However I have managed to snatch the odd moment now and again to quickly pop to the garage. Even if it didn't achieve much in the overall scheme of things, it at least meant there was some kind of momentum which is important for me to keep motivated rather than be daunted by the task at hand. Soooo in no particular order: Has a fight with more of the rusty nuts and bolts holding the front panel together which resulted in this and this managed to get hold of some of these (a vast improvement on the MMAs despite their rarity) any guesses? and carried on cleaning parts in the kitchen... I also managed to get the car starting on the button meaning I could run it up to temperature and start to test a few other things. Consequently all of the gauges are now working... however there is a coolant leak from this pipe near the thermostat: it's also got a bit of a kink in it so probably best being replaced altogether... now to find the part number... Hopefully we're moving closer to the cars relocation and clutch change also. fingers crossed!
