So some of you may heave seen my thread asking for advice about repainting a corgi model (http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/184691/diecast-model-painting). Well I tracked down the correct model on ebay and have begun the process of changing its colour. The idea was to replicate the lorry my grandfather used to drive as a xmas present for my dad. These are the only photos I have to work from Typically the photos are all black and white and I cant really ask my dad what colour the lorries where. Luckily a guy I work with's dad was a lorry driver around the same time so he was able to tell me what colours they were. Something like the below I found the correct model on ebay and it arrived with me last week This was stripped down ready for the paint stripping process I stripped the paint by putting the parts in a container with hot water and caustic soda. After about 20 minutes the paint had bubbled and could be scrapped off After I had scrapped all the loose paint off the parts were rinsed and dried. I then used a dremel tool with a wire brush attachment to clean up the surface ready for paint. I have applied one coat of the burgundy colour so far That's where I am up to now. I will update as I progress

Very fortunate to find the model you required with screws instead of rivets. Such a cool idea too. Will be following this one.

Looks good, are you spraying or brush painting? Will try the caustic soda method next time I do some paint stripping, found some models I'd bought to repaint yesterday.

This is really cool your dad's going to be chuffed to bits with it, the custom decals will be the finnishing touch. A while back my dad painted a model of a Transit and race car to replicate what he raced (and towed with) years ago. As a suprise i scratch built him a trailer to go with them, only from guesswork. When he got it he asked where id found a picture of his trailer as he thought that none existed. I had no picture, i just did it to what i thought looked right. Turns out the construction of his old trailer was exactly the same! Strange eh?
I look forward to seeing the finnished article.

it's good, but personally I would've made it a bit neater on the cab especially near the door would've made that line straighter.

Thanks for noticing my awful panting skills lol I'm sure when the lettering is done your dad will be so pleased that he won't noticed. Anyway I'm sure the next one will be better so you can replicate the photo. I think doing a customised present like this is a brilliant idea. I did get my father-in-law a Corgi GPO van as he'd been a GPO telephone engineer but didn't need to customise anything.
