Hi
New to older cars and have the opportunity of buying either a fully refurbished XR2i with ground up rebuild and brand new paint job or a totally original XR2i with only 45k miles. The refurb has 84k miles and 3 owners; the original no rust looks in amazing condition garaged all its life.
Any help/comments appreciated.
Cheers

No right or wrong answer here but I'd have the original unrestored car.

Original for me too.looks like a good one. Nothing wrong with restored, but i'd always want to see pics of what was done, new paint can hide a multitude of sins !

Its a personal choice, don't follow the crowd if you want modified and it suits the use it will get buy it or if you prefer original then get an original one. Don't by the car everyone likes but the one you like.

IMHO it depends on what you want to do with the car and what has been done to both.
If the original has been maintained and repaired when necessary then I would say the original. If it is however original down to the tyres on the rear of the car, the cambelt and other things etc. then I would say go with the restored car.
Original can also be another term for neglected IMO. Sure they look nice but a lack of use do not do many cars any favours ultimately.

they're only original once
very rarely see resto work thats 100% minto , a shiney paint job can cover all sorts of toot , and afterall no one tears down a clean rust free car and does it up
original for me if its rot free , then you can keep it up and insist on the best quality repairs as they're needed

The clean unrestored survivor every time. Then you can see what you are getting.

Going by the previous mots, it looks like its not only original, but the seller isn't doing the service bits.....
2009 advisory - n/s/f tyre has a cut in outer side wall less than 25mm and no cords exposed
2012 advisory - cut to n/s/f tyre tread but no cord exposed at time of test
I'm guessing its running on the original tyres, and he is keeping them for "originality"
