Just need to find out if it would pass an MOT with a decat Yes! In fact you could do just about anything. I have a full 3" decat, no silencers, and although I havnt personally had it tested it will go through. Note, I do not like my exhaust, far too droning and bass-y. Needs to be narrow for that rotary rasp. Ooh thats good news The challenge I think will be finding a decent FC system in this country.. I think I may have to look to Japan or the US for something, I don't want it to be too loud, just freeing up a bit of rasp and power will do me

They drop off the participated list after a month or so, so you have to keep spamming people's threads up relentlessly with no posts of any worth at... ahhh... Sorry Umm, have a looooow coop by way of apology actually, I do have some relevance... Technically, you do need a cat for the MOT. If you go to a reprogrammable ECU you can fudge the emissions down to a tolerable level. or find a... ahh... tame MOT tester! Craig at TopGear in Stockport has one of the most sorted FDs in the country and happens to be a weapons-grade fabricator of one-off exhaust systems. Not exactly cheap, but if you're gonna be going the extra mile of getting a bespoke system made it might be worth going to the best rather than a generic "specialist"

Being a 1989 I would have thought that you could get away without needing a cat for the MOT and that it was emissions (and loosely) emissions based. AFAIK only cars made after 1992 have a legal requirement to have a cat fitted.

AFAIK only cars made after 1992 have a legal requirement to have a cat fitted. The 1992 cut off year is what I had in my head as well What I would worry about is even if there isn't a requirement to have a cat fitted for my car, would it even be able to pass the non-cat emissions test in the MOT anyway? (Unless this is where the clever mapping that luckyseven mentions comes in to play)

I thought it still fell under the "if the vehicle had a cat fitted as factory then it must be retained" bit? I may be wrong there, then. I bow to your superior wossname. But it's unlikely it would pass emissions without one. Becos rotary

FWIW both of 944s came out of the Factory with cats, and both did not have one come MOT time. Both to my surprise passed. I cannot confirm the above for certain but I do know that if a car has a cat after 1992 it has to still retain it (or at least appear that it has) for the MOT. I guess ultimately you are at the mercy of the MOT tester. luckyseven, I am aware the Rotarys are dirty engines but surely even they will pass the CO limits. IIRC the CO limits are CO=3.5%, 1200ppm, with lambda being 1 for pre-92 cars.

Argh so much temptation to re-do mine in white... I should stop neglecting that car. Anyway the exhaust I'm like 99% sure pre-92 doesnt need a cat regardless what it came with. Plus from your own advice L7, you should look at a remap if you change the breathing anyway, so I really wouldnt worry about emissions. Worse case just build an MOT pipe or have a section you can drop and and replace with a cat.

Been working on the MG mostly this week but did still manage to do a couple of bits on the RX7 Firstly there was this Which necessitated a trip to my local tyre place who were thankfully able to repair it which saved me a few quid I've bought some new plates in the pre-2001 Charles Wright font which will go on once I get the drill charged up Then because I'm a bit anal, I organised all the paperwork that came with the car into chronological order.. Which is also a good chance to have a proper check through and see what all the paper is really for In the meantime I got my second attempt at a clutch master cylinder which was thankfully the right part And slung it on the car today, I think the old one was definitely in a bad way as the fluid level in the master cylinder had dropped a bit and little to no fluid seemed to spill out when I took the old slave cylinder off You can just about see it in this photo along with a new braided hose In getting out the spare wheel to use the eezibleed kit again, I found the spare in the 7 is completely flat haha so at some point this week I'll go pump it up properly as it would have taken my little pump hours to do Its a bit of a faff to set up but the bleeding process itself takes no time at all which I really like I then quickly popped the fixed flash to pass window back in Before turning my attention to the radio again, it needed the DAB aerial and hands free microphone fitting. I was also planning to run cables for the Aux in and USB stick into the glovebox too as the ports for these are on the back of the head unit. The aux in and USB cables were fairly easy to route through behind the head unit, and the glovebox already had a couple of holes made in it from some previous owner's mod (which had been crudely filled in with a couple of trim clips glued in place, strange) Its a bit messy behind there as its where the alarm and immobiliser live, If/when I get a second daily again I think I'll have to take it out as its not the neatest job and it bothers me haha! The only photo I took as it was getting cold and the wiring was a pain to route The A pillar was a bit of a challenge to get off and I managed to shear one of my phillips sockets in the process, narrowly missing punching myself in the face But after a lot of fiddling, the DAB aerial is in place (annoyingly not parallel with the pillar but thats life) I ran out of light, temperature and desire to do the microphone, it can wait for another day

Nice buy bro! Looks much better with the badges being black . Look forward to seeing what you do for the exhaust and rest of the car. I got my exhaust for the FB made up at a local shop in Worcester who done a good job aye. Nice tone and can have a conversation at cruising speed. But if I put my foot down it starts shouting

Yeah I much prefer the black, the bootlid looked featureless before haha although I'm still not 100% on it, I think it might look good with a lip spoiler and the central brake light as well? As per this lovely example I'll do a bit more thinking and research on exhausts I think but cheers for the heads up I narrowly avoided buying a set of wheels for the 7 this week.. But with a second daily arrival imminent, I'm starting to look at a few of the jobs that can be done with not having to rely on using the car everyday. First of these will probably be finding a good convertible top place to have a look at the tears in the top and seeing what can be done about them I also think I've found the culprit of the non working reverse light as the light flickered a bit the other day while I was moving the stick in reverse so I think its the switch. Not entirely sure where I'm going to find one of those yet..
