Due to money issues my mates South African import MK1 Escort is for sale. Quite a few upgrades including - Bored out 1600 Xflow with Kent Cam Ashley Exhaust Weber Carb 5 Speed Sierra Gearbox Single Piece Prop Capri front legs and brakes Rebuilt back brakes and recent tune up All solid, just needs welding finishing off on new sill Full V5 in his name Bad points - No MOT, needs electrical gremlins sorting to pass. I viewed this car and was messed around heavily there is also lots not mentioned like the bubbling roof gutters, the fact it's an import, and quite a few previous shoddy repairs. Also a broken water pump and missing studs for the exhaust manifold which were no doubt stripped overall wasn't impressed by the car or person selling it

To be fair, it's a 1973 car that needs seeing before you agree to buy it (as I'm sure most 40+ year old cars do). Of course it has faults and as I also state in the advert, it's not my car I'm just putting it on here for a mate. As strada says though, South African Import are the 7th, 8th and 9th word of the advert.... (and having just spoken to Pat, it was his brother who showed you around the car as Pat couldn't be there, and unfortunately he knows nothing about the car and has no interest in it!)

It is what it is mate and everyone is welcome to come and form their own opinion and I wouldn't expect anyone to do anything but that to be honest. It's a 1973 Ford Escort, it will have a number of imperfections and the fact it's advertised with no MOT would surely indicate this? Anyway, best of luck in your hunt for a mint £4k Mk1.

Aware of what? Its a non Mot'd 1973 Escort. It has got rusty bits and electrical gremlins. It does need work (hence no MOT!) so not sure what you are expecting to be honest. Its an advert i've stuck on here for a mate outlining what it is. Anyone interested has the details of the seller there to contact and discuss at length anything about the car before they make any trip! If you come to see it and don't like it, you don't buy it!

ok ladies calm down lol
trouble is that cars can look good in the pictures thats why you go and view them, you would never buy a car without viewing it first ( although i have in the past )
i have sold many oldskoolfords in the past and if i was to list all the faults with them it would never had sold but ive always tried to be honest with the buyer when they have viewed them or contacted me regarding the car.
You should always try to give an honest discription when selling but even then there will always be faults that your just not aware of
I suppose its as always BUYER BEWARE but seller try to be honest, it save a lot of wasted time on both parties
Well thats my opinion anyway

A good friend of mine is selling a mint mk2 four door, year mot and fully rebuilt engine for £5000, it does amaze me at the prices some are advertised for, but haven't seen yours so can't comment glwts

At that price I'd be expecting a four door to be pretty good but price is always negotiable once the car has been viewed. No harm in aiming high but it does lead to a higher level of expectation from the buyer, particularly when the pictures make it seem so fresh.
Hammondo is in an awkward position as he's listing on behalf of someone else but having to take all the flack. Why not just put up some detailed pictures of the problem (and the good) areas and then the pictures will do all the talking. There will be a buyer somewhere and a price that keeps everyone happy as mk1 Escorts always sell! :-)

not sure wherabouts your mate lives but the best option would be to stick it in a classic car auction, with reasonable reserve, check this site out! |
