Up for Sale is my tax exempt 1972 Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 2.8 Short wheel base. This rare car was bought by me to restore over winter but I have to face facts and admit to myself that 4 project cars is too many, so some have to go. I bought this one as it is a rare car, wind up windows, short wheel base and a 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive.
The car itself is quite solid, and although in need of some restoration it's far from a basket case. The worst areas are the front radiator crossmember (a common problem and cheap fix) and the rear valance. There have been repairs in the past to the rear arch and boot floor. These are solid but untidy, and you may want to do some further work on them. Externally the car cleans up well, the chrome looks good and the car sits nicely. There are some small rust bubbles here and there but this isn't a car that's completely rotten, far from it. The silver and red is a really nice combination and it'll look stunning when complete.
The car starts/runs and drives, but needs new fuel pumps so can only be run for short periods from a can. I'd recommend a good engine service before use but it seems OK and complete. The clutch works as it should and the gearbox feels nice. Brakes work as they should although the pedal is a little hard from lack of use.
The interior is lovely, unfortunately the headlining is sagging and the NSR carpet is missing, but these are easily fixed and then the interior would be wonderful. The red leather is in good condition and would really respond to a clean and feed.
In conclusion, this is a really good base for a project, and although there are a few weekends work it'll be a very worthwhile and rewarding project that will be worth good money when complete. It's a rare version of a desirable car.
Any questions please ask.
